Recommendation? Wrought Iron Source

That is good looking WI.

Ilmarinen (ˈilmɑˌrine̞n)is a character from the Kalevala, which is a long folk story from Finnish mythology. He is called the Eternal Hammerer. In the older version, he was a blacksmith semi-god who hammered out the heavens and the stars are the sparks from his forge. In the more recent versions he was a gifted mortal blacksmith/inventor and friend to all, who could make anything with his forge and tools. He made the Sampo, which was a magical machine that would turn out anything by merely putting in some raw materials - it could make food, gold, steel, etc.
I got this nickname from the Norwegian ships captain named Laars. It sort of stuck among some nerdy friends.

Thank you for the assessment on the WI and for the explanation!

I’m relatively new to this, so I don’t have much experience with WI. If there was a 10pt grading scale for WI, where would this fit, and what would you say is most commonly found? I've heard of issues with splitting etc with lower quality WI, but didn't experience anything like that in the little bit of shaping that I did.

I asked about Ilmarinen because I am actually Finnish (half, dual-citizen, summers there growing up, served in the Finnish army, mom and sister live there now, etc). It is rare to see a mention to The Kalevala anywhere outside of Finland, and it is a great nickname for a smith with as much knowledge as you! I’m currently going through designing a maker’s mark/ name/ brand and had been considering using something Kalevala related, but I think I’m going in a different direction.

Oh, stick with the Kalevala. Be a wizard and call your forge "The Sampo". How about "Jesse Lange - Wizard of the Sampo" as a avatar name.

As a makers mark, use the image of Finland with the letters J&L centered on each side. In the quick image couldn't get the J&L raised to the middle, but you can see what I mean. Make the outline bolder and leave the islands off, as they will be too small once reduced to makers mark size.

^sorry about that, I figured it was fine given the extent of the conversation/ the fact that the thread wasn’t started with the intent of selling, it just happened organically.

I actually came back to the thread to mention that I saw that Maritime Knife Supply is now selling WI, so worth checking out for those who are looking for straight bars.
