This axe/hawk is forged from wrought iron. The hammer poll is steeled with a piece of 1065 that was jump welded on to the wrought. The hammer poll was hardened and tempered just like a regular hammer. The cutting edge is a piece of old black diamond file. ( 1.27% carbon) tempered way back 
We took a pic of the edge. You can still see the file teeth welded into the wrought which is pretty cool. Etched to bring out the pattern of the wrought. The head is 6 3/4" long and the cutting edge is appx 2 5/8" wide. The haft is hickory(19" long) and has a leather wrap with brass tacks. Comes with a simple edge sheath.
