Wrought Iron !

The story doesn't mention it but this watermain was made from wrought iron. It was installed in 1870 !! Not too bad for service life .
For those who work with wrought iron remember it was a common material in the past and an excellent one at that !!!

I've seen a lot of old cast iron water mains, but Wrought Iron - wow!
Here in Norfolk they come across a cast iron water main that is 100+ years old.....usually when it breaks. The last time they had a major break in one the article said they don't know exactly when it was installed, since the records only go back to the 1920's.
