I don't know if my pictures are good enough,if not i will try again.I came up with several pieces of this stuff i found at my dads house. It's the stair rail and other pieces off the front of an old home in New Orleans.I don't have a clue how old this stuff is.

I would like to know if it is cast or wrought, and what some of you would use it for? If anything?
It is about .500 wide and the thickness tapers from .400 to .325
There is some longer pieces that are about .500 square.

Thanks,God bless,Keith

I think some of the older work may have been wrought but this one is cast. The fracture is a brittle type while wrought iron would be a ductile type [elongation before fracture].

Both pics, cast for sure. The assembled piece is way too uniform, symmetrical, and cold and looking at it the collars and fleur-de-lis bundle look like one piece cast solid. Sorry, man.
