I teach ata small private school in florida. (pre-k -9) and have been asked to teach a nine week course on basic wilderness survival. Nothing fancy, just debris huts, survival kits, compass use, food, fire, water. The very basics. I know one of the projects will be for the kids to team up and build debris huts. they will also have to "build" a small survival kit with a limited amount of funds. This will be a virtual kit since I can't make the kids go out and actually buy the stuff. They will also have to team up for a very short compass test. Do any of you have anyother suggestions. Class is about 30-40 minutes long twice a week. Any advice would be great.

There are some good books but perhaps you should take a week long course yourself. That would give you a bit of a foundation.
For kit info visit http://www.equipped.org/
This is a great site in general but the founder is an expert on kits.
