WSK - Beveling the Hook?

I'm giving a go at a couple WSK's for myself and a friend for our upcoming deployment.

The hook portion is proving to be a far bigger challenge than I anticipated. Can anyone offer some advice or techniques they used for theirs? I'm working with a 2x72, 1" and 8" dia wheels.

I tried one side yesterday and, I'll just say...that knife's ugly side will be extra ugly. I first tried doing the flat edge bevel and forward edge bevel and connected the two with the hook bevel. I used the 1" wheel with the knife sort of up and down to the wheel (perpendicular). This was not a safe/efficient way of doing it and like I said, it didn't turn out well.

Thanks!

I think that might be a good question to answer with a dremel or die grinder with a 1/2in or 3/4in drum sander. Lock the blade in a vice and grind till you have the edge you want. I did one a long time back and it was really tough to pull off on the belt grinder for me. I went to the Dremel and it was slower but more accurate.

Don't try to blend the grinds. You'll need a plunge on both sides. (start and end of the grind)
