I have been trying to find a knife or one with the same design as the tracker. The tracker is to much. My limit is up to 120 dollars. That design is great. If anyone could give possible suggestions i would be pleased.

There are a lot of rip-offs of that knife. Right after the movie came out there were lots of ads. It could certainly be made cheap, but the audience for that knife as a result of the movie doesn't care, so I don't know if you can trust any of the rip offs. I would search the forums back from when the movie first came out, there might be some threads there. Or check ebay for survival knives. If what you want is a 120 dollar survival knife there are lots of options.

For a $120.00 knife, you're choice is to buy a POS rip off, or go with a different design altogether.

You should go check out the Himalayan Imports Cantina. Daniel Koster decided to make a version of the Tracker and submitted a few designs for tweaking, and critiquing. The more it was tweaked and improved, the more it was starting to look like existing khukuri designs. $120 can get you a LONG ways for a helluva good HI Khuk, especially if you watch the Deals of the day.

Let us know how your quest goes, eh?:D

Just modded my Ka-bar Warthog so it's more user friendly. Cut down the upper and lower portions of the guard. Not as extreme looking as the Tracker but for $50 and alittle grinding, sanding and painting it will work fine. Now I'm gonna mod the sheath to ride higher. Just a thought.

I've mentioned in other posts that I'm kinda cheap if I think I can make it myself. I want to get a cheap bench grinder and acquire some steel and grind one myself, meaning truck spring or saw blade. I know that some guys are not do it yourselfers, but I think that with a little effort many of us could produce something of value:D Ya, ya , I know it aint the real thing but I don't have the kind of money that buys custom knives.:(

i have been talking to people and I came down to the paratraxx and the timber pig. any suggestions instead of making my own knife?

is the warthog a knife that could be thrown or is it not meant like that. I know someone reading this is going to say well you can throw any knife, but im serious...

Buy a thick bladed Carbon steel India machete and cut it down with a dremel tool.

I'd be hesitant to trust the rip off blades like the Paratraxx, which I beileve is 420 steel. The blade might be thick enough not to shater, but the edge would probably be fairly brittle...

Just my .02.:thumbdn:

Guess you can throw it. Haven't tried too. Wouldn't say it's a thrower though as with the others you mentioned. Too me it has has weight(I'm used to small pocket EDCs), but that makes it a good chopper. Sharp out of the box. I like it. Got mine off Ebay. Took about 1/2 hour of grinding, sanding them some paint to get it the way I wanted it. Check them out.

Hmmm....

responding to the question "will it work?" I'd have to answer...probably. Afterall throughout history knives of bronze, flint, sharpened bones, and sharpened rocks have worked, so strictly speaking a slab of 420J would probably work...Not because of any intristic value in the blade, but simply the fact that it's a sharpened piece of steel.

That being said, there's no way I myself could recommend the Paratraxx in good conscience. It is NOT a TOPS, Beck,or a Linger, it looks similar, but is NOT. the sawteeth will most likely fall short, the blade is unlikely to hold an edge, the balance will not be the same, due to the Karda..errr...small knife in the handle, it may very well not hold up to throwing. If you want something that you can dink around with and throw around in the backyard, it's probably fine. If you're not venturing far from the beaten path it'll probably do okay. If you want something you can rely on....I'd think twice.

$120 isn't a bad limit for a true survival/outdoors knife, but you'd have to place function above style. Consider Leukus, Goloks, hatchets, khukuris and machetes. If you want a hacker you can throw, consider a decent tomahawk.
All of the knives listed have been around for centuries. They wouldn't have lasted that long if they didn't serve thier intended purchase. For that matter Beckers, Ontarios, and Ka-Bars can be alot of bang for the buck.

The original WSK was designed as a compromise of many things, not especially suited to any one particular task, but quite usable for a multitude of tasks. It does pretty well by most accounts due to the fact that it was well designed and well made. The Paratraxx LOOKS similar, but it's not the same. Just because appearance between two products is similar doesn't mean anything else will be.

If you want a decent blade, I'd consider either getting something more traditional, or saving up a few more pennies if your hearts set on the WSK style.

Sorry if I'm coming off overly negative about the idea, but...that's my input.

best of luck whatever you may decide!:)

The scenes in the movie where they threw this thing were pure fantasy. I'm not to sure how practical any knife throwing is, but this knife was not designed for that purpose, and the scenes of it penetrating a sapling are BS. The Tracker knife, while I wouldn't want to get into a fight against it, is not a combat/fighting/killing knife. If you want to see what kind of knives are, run the DVD section on knife fighting and look at the aluminum long bladed, double edged, pratice knives the experts there were using.

The fight sequences throughout the Hunted including the guys with guns in the woods, etc... are as bad for realism as I have ever seen. The Tracker knife is basically a fantasy knife, like the lord of the rings swords, unless one approaches it purely as a survival piece, in which case all the things you aren't asking about mater more than the ones you are asking about.

I'm not being disrespectful. Many people buy knives simply because they saw anyone from Nessmuk, to a movie star using one. For 60 buck the Paratraxx is a great deal for that purpose. I'd be surprised if it turned out to be the real mccoy, but it isn't completely impossible.

The Timber Pig I found online was reviewed by our very own Phil Elmore. I would have thought he could separate a poser knife from one that works, though his article doesn't mention much about edge retention etc... It is clear from the article, however, that the TP was designed with quite different ideas than the Tracker. Actualy it might be a little closer to the role the Tracker played in the movie, since the designer mentions pig sticking. The designer doesn't understand the Tracker knife and for instances calls the draw knife area the hatchet part, and therefore left the actual hatchet part off the knife. On the other hand if the 1095 is properly heat treated there isn't any reason why the edge shouldn't perform fine.

To be or not to be?
You can buy the Tops for 200-220 $ in ebay.
Come on,L.T the money difference is not that much.
The Tops is good knife lots better than Paratraxx:
The Paratraxx is shit and for kids under 10 years old:D
Finally if your love to have the good one..?
Mr xxxxxxx can help you.
Consideration for money and time.

thanks for all the help guys. My last question before i stop going on aand on about this is how about the becker is that a good knife or should i stick with the warthog

and does anyone know how to put the lopps on the sheath so you can wear it horizontally on your belt? (provide pictures if avalible)

Have you guys taken a look at the new WSK the RAZR. It looks a lot like a TOPS Screaming Eagle reprofiled and cut out for sawback. Hedgehog is selling on eBay. List price for $299 but looks like a $189 for a TOPS would be just as good a bit over priced I think.
LT have you looked at the new Predator by Red Scorpion 6, it seems pretty close fo original design of the Beck or Linger Tracker. Not sure how it performs though. Looks like his average sale price has been $250 on eBay. but from the email I got from him says he will not be set up to ship until mid Feb.
Bite the bullet and buy a good knife I would steer clear of anything like the ParaTraxx. Would you bet you life on a $59 knife? Like TOPS One Life, One Knife.
I personally am going to get one of these Predator WSK's to try out and Always stick with my TOPS screaming eagle.
Good luck.

There are lots of horizontal set-ups for knives. You can use tape. Or you can use a piec of the sheath itself to fold back from the edge to create a second tunnel for the belt, a simple version for a sheath that uses rivets along both edges is to suspend the loops form those. In Kydex there are lots of options and special buckles that go with them. You want your choice to not add too much bulk to your back or it won't be comfortable.

I have made a beck wsk knife with a angle grinder. it is out of 0-1 tool steel with a 550 paracord wrapped handle (black) & I blued the wole thing. but I'm looking for a maker that is willing to make one as close becks as possible with good leather sheath. If intristed e-mail me at ninjablade@yahoo.com price rage guess $300-500 thank you Gary Short:o
