looking for another wsk type knife for camping . mainly on a drop off on a island camping . anyone know of any makers WITHOUT breaking the bank ?? found one maker i might use as his basic wsk goes for under 300 .THATS WHAT IM LOOKING FOR . not 500 or 600 dollars .

so any decent makers in that price range ??? its gonna be a user not safe queen . and im not rich lol . anything that cost 500 or 600 bucks i would put in a safe.

heard of a maker from here in nc bgoode?? wondering what his prices are

suggestions are welcomed but i want it under 300 $

I would suggest JK knives, John has a forum on this site. Heavy duty tough knives at very good prices. All or any of our Makers here can deliver just what you want and stay in your price range.

Brian Goode. Good guy and makes lots of sweet stuff. Mainly works with O1. "http://www.bgoodeknives.com/"
JK Handmade Knives here on the forums is also a very good guy. You give him a drawing and he brings it to life. http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=830

+1 on JK Handmade Knives. Stomper (JK) has just finished making me a combi-edge camp knife, based on my design (http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=716510). I have never seen him do a saw-back, so that might not be possible, but if you're looking for a sturdy, combi-edge camp knife, I think he's your man.

All the best,

- Mike

Another vote for JK Knives. Bryan Breeden is another good maker. I've bought knives from both and they are good guys who will be sure you get what you want at a fair price.

Jeremy Horton in the makers section.

well goode is too backed up , and jk emailed me and stated he does not make wsk style knives . so im still looking for maker, one person is lined up thou and hopefully we can make this happen ,

what about an off-the-shelf factory job?

a Fallkniven S1 or ESEE RC-5 sound right up your alley. there are other offerings from reputable manufacturers that would come in at well under US$200.

or do you really want a custom knife?

Shoot Bryan Breeden an email. Top notch guy to deal with, quite fair pricing, and when I dealt with him, his wait times were quite reasonable.

If you can draw it or describe it then John of JK Knives will make it. He will also make it at a great price and it will be a great product, nuff said !!!

Mark Wohlwend is also an awesome maker that's work just keeps getting better and better, I'm quite sure he would also be able to get you sorted !!!

Then of course there is Bruce Culberson,Ray Laconico, Bryan Breedan, G L Drew, Scott Gossman etc,etc.....man the world is your oyster !!!!!

Well, I have to say that I would skip the sawback completely--I've yet to find one that is really of much use anyway. That said, I have to give another nod to John of JK Handmade Knives. He made me a little Nessmuk-style neck knife just the way I wanted it, and I have seen him bring all sorts of drawings to life. I know that you said he doesn't do them, but if I had to guess, it is probably because he doesn't do sawbacks, but I could be wrong.

thanks for all replies , the makers got back to meand declined , but i found one that will do what i want for good price so mods can close this up .

Did you try GL Drew? If JK won't make a WSK style he might GL seems kinda adventurous and is always trying different things he might welcome the challenge.

I have a Tracker, I got it and the hedgehog sheath for a great deal. It is a well built knife but I would try one before u buy. Mine is currently with a knifemaker being reground. The blade was a little too hatchet like for me. He is going to hollow grind it to give it a more knifelike edge. Oh and beadblast the black crud off it ;)

Well built, awesome handle probably the most comfortable knife I've held, but I couldn't recommend it as is from the factory. But if you can score a used one for a deal and fix it....... well I think you will have something. At least that is what I am hoping ;)

thanks guys , i found a knifemaker to make it , and very pleased after i spoke with him , ofcourse he is busy and will be a little time involved but im happy with the process. i wanted a custom job and never looked at the factory makings , the knifemaker is mike maniord if you are looking for knife , great fellow to talk with and i know im gonna be happy .

 google him up he has a website.

Great prices if he makes a decent product. The edges on his wsks are what mine will look like when reground. Plz post pics when u get yours.
