Wskt-ko blade grinding attachment

So after using it for awhile now I'm absolutely loving the blade grinding attachment...I thought the Ken onion work sharp was great originally, but it doesn't compare to the results and ease of use the attachment gives.

If you have the ko-wskt you gotta try the blade grinding attachment, I doubt I'll ever use the original anymore.

My first attempt at doing a full height convex with the blade grinding attachment. Being that it's not meant for such use it did an ok job on this cheap gerber.

On the fence about trying it out on my bk2 thou.

So the question is: Was that all freehand? What was your last steps to get that literal mirror polish?

Yes the blade grinding attachment is all free hand, the only "guide" is the platform to set the spine on for angle reference.

The polish is achieved by just going thru the belt progression. Started on the x22 sharpening belt, then went to the x4 belt, then finished up on the 12k grit belt. All these belts are included with the attachment.

Btw free handing is super easy on this thing, once you get the feel for it. I was surprised at how easy it really was, and it's not as easy to round the tip off like the normal ko.

Dang it Bobby, now I'm looking at the attachment and thinking, "80 bucks isn't THAT much..."

Your informative threads are damaging to my bank account! :p :D

Lol sorry... It's definitely worth it thou. The results are 10x better than ko alone, plus you can easily do micro bevels, use the 90° area to square a knife spine for ferro rods.

Simply put it gives you a lot more control when sharpening, especially knives you don't want to completely convex with a high secondary bevel. Adjust the tension on the belt and you can do a v grind.

Once you get use to it you'll probably find yourself not even needing the angle reference plate. I mainly keep it set at 15° and adjust the angle I approach it.

There's also a bunch of optional belts I'm looking to eventually get, some being more course and more gradual finer belts. They also have a leather belt that'll further polish the edge I want.
