Anyone here had any trouble with WSSI wood stabilizing specialists? I have a nice batch of wood there to be stabilized, but it is taking a while( he's had it for a month and a half). Maybe he's just busy? But when I send emails they are not answered, and a phone call was not very encouraging. I'd hate to have all my nice birch burl dissapear, after I spent the time to cut and dry it, and prep it for stabilizing.

You will get your wood Im sure they are not the cheating kind. But yes they have not been very reliable the last few years. Is the wood your having done double are triple dyed. These can take a lot of time to do right but not that long.

I'll be honest...they aren't as prompt as before. Rarely will an email get a reply. The phone is the best way to get him.

In WSSI's defense, the quality is just as good as ever. Mike is short handed and working hard. He is a bit of a perfectionist, and half-assed won't do. He will get to it when he can, and get it back to you as soon as it is done. I am waiting for a large batch to come back, too. I would have liked it done in a few weeks, but Mike had some issues with the surface condition of my wood, and he re-sanded and re-labled the blocks. A person who didn't care may have just run them as-is.

I would rather wait for top quality than have lesser grade work done sooner.

Thanks guys.........makes me feel better. I guess I'd better just be patient eh?

Last I had some stuff there it took a few months. But I will say I was very pleased with the work.

Same experience here. It took several months, emails weren't always answered but the finished product was top notch. It was totally worth the wait in my opinion.

I sent in 39 blocks and had them back in a shorter time than what you all are indicating. Was happy with the experience. Jess

I've sent several loads and never was disappointed in the quality. The time it took didn't matter much to me because I have so much stabilized wood laying around, and no hope in hell that I'll ever make enough knives to use it all. I just like having a lot of variety. ;)

I sent off about 20 blocks late last Summer or early Fall and it took something like 3 weeks. I was VERY pleased with the product I received back. It was clean and I had very minimal cleanup to do. Something I can't say for another vendor. As with Stacy, he sent back several blocks that had issues instead of going ahead and stabilizing them. I appreciated that.

Let me know if you ever want to get rid of any, it seems like I am always running out of handle material...

Just to bring this thread full circle, I have recieved some of my wood back(turned out awesome) and the rest is done and on the way. Mike's been a busy fella, but takes good care of his customers(even if he's a bit slow with returning emails;)).

I too have received three boxes of wood back, and the last two that were in for dying and stabilizing are being boxed up. As always the work is great.

If you need it fast, go elsewhere. If you can wait, just send it to Mike and forget about it for a few months....it will come back when he gets to it.

Some of Mike's best work IMO....and yes I had to wait awhile to get them back. Nobody does Box Elder like WSSI....
