I am looking for a 10-14" wheel and the other smaller idler wheels needed to build one of the 2"x72" belt grinders. I am not committed to a set of plans yet so I can use almost any size. Thanks

Hi Friend,

I haven't quite got my grinder all worked out yet, but...

I got an 8" contact wheel (urethane) from sunray-inc.com for about $70 (versus about $250 for the vulcanized rubber ones). I'm going to give 2" skateboard wheels a shot for idler wheels that should be able to double as little contact wheels. I tried to jerryrig a lathe of sorts and turned a drive wheel and a tracking wheel from wood. I couldn't get them true enough and they checked after time in my outdoor shop. I since received a drive wheel and tracking wheel as Christmas gifts (via Tracy Mickley's online store). I got a DC motor and controller off of eBay and hope I can figure out how to hook it all up. I just have a couple more pieces of steel to track down and I should be FLYING!

All the best with your efforts, Phil

Phil I've made quite a fw drive wheels from wood (though my shop is indoors) the other day just for gigles I trued up a 5" caster wheel that cost $5 on my bader and its surely not bader or any other quality of vulcanized wheel but I hollow ground 2 blades on it just to prove I could-no problems

I was just on Tracy's site and saw that he is now selling the poly-urethane wheels.

Sounds good Ken! What kind of wood did you use and how did you turn them?
