WTF is up with Spyderco?? (QC)

Spyderco makes production knives. If you want to guarantee that your blade is centered and your grind is perfect. Buy a custom. An off centered blade doesn't impede use. At least non of the blades I have had, that were off centered, cut worse. I can understand if we are talking almost touching a liner, or moreso, scraping it.

A bad grind on a knife can be corrected with sharpening. Not trying to sound like a jerk, but you will have to sharpen at some point.

The fact is, Spyderco's Golden Colorado plant is at full capacity. At this point they can hardly add any other new models to be made in Colorado. Some flaws are to be expected in the production world.

FYI, the Sage 2's pivot screws can be adjusted individually to affect centering.

It always takes me a couple attempts to get mine centered when I assemble it.

Well, my knife point was virtually touching the liner --- couldn't see between the two.

A very well known & talented custom maker sent me a knife a few years ago when he hit the really big time. He rushed his products out and it showed. For example, the blade was not well sharpened at all and there was a very small chip. My chisel ground left handed tanto also had the chisel side on the wrong side for a lefty. I told him and he had no answer. I mentioned this in confidence to another custom maker a year later. He said he had spoken to him about 6 months ago and told him to slow down; that he understood his rushing (so many orders) but his reputation would eventually suffer and he evidently listened. The older maker said this often happens with a young guy who becomes very popular.

Back to Spyderco...slow down production and hire a few more people. And keep up the good work! (I mean it, they do have great products and value their customers.)

This is one of the best responses I have ever come across when someone post a legit criticism of quality issues of a well-known maker. Many posts were indeed from jerks who I don't care. Kudos to you, sir.

i own probably 30 or so Spydies. I have never had to return one, period. Sounds like you re having some bad luck or spyderco is having some issues currently. But I just got a Techno that is perfect and I love her!!
