I almost had a mental break down. I was having a little and i mean little like 8 inches in dia fire and i was running low on wood so i went over and i battonned a little 2-3 inch round with my brkt highland an i looked at my edge and it looked like someone hit it with a a darn ball peen hammer three times. I AM livid. Do you think i got a bad heat treat or am i a freaking super strong giant?

we can't know that without pics and physical measurements.;)

It can happen with any knife, probably bad heat treatment or just a faulty piece of steel. I would send it back and see what they think.

It might only be a problem at the very edge not the whole blade. Sometimes I think the belts over heat the steel right at the thinest part of the edge, but once the defects are removed by hand sharpening the problem is resolved. At least that's been my experience. If the problem is more extensive, Bark River will take care of it.

When i recived the knife from tony the spine above the point was blue maybe this was because it was a first production run.

Contact Mike Stewart at Bark River.

He will want to see the knife, and re-set the edge a little thicker (remember they are all hand ground so they vary a bit from knife to knife).

He may test the hardness if he thinks it’s too hard or too soft.

I had an A2 blade that chipped while chopping, Mike thought it might be too hard and asked me to send it in, I re-set the edge a little thicker and have been using it hard ever since.

Bark River will hook you up.

Bob, if you don't want the headache of dealing with them you can send the knife back to me. I will get it taken care of; in the mean time I can loan you my Foxriver.

Oh, but you have to promise to start using commas every now and then in your sentences!;):D

meybe use an AXE for splitting wood and the knife for cutting or slicing? ;)

Tony, I know Mike Stewart will fix it up quickly (at no charge of course).

But if you do get it back I’ll be more then happy to fix any damage and re-set that edge a little thicker.
