A few years ago I bought a couple of antique bayonets from an estate sale. The previous owner had passed away, and I didn’t really have any history on them. Both were kept in his collection, and were in pretty good shape. However, I not really a collector, so I’d like to sell them.

First up is a French M1866 Chassepot bayonet designed for the Chassepot 11mm needle-fire rifle used during the Franco-Prussian War. The blade is 22.75”, so it might be considered more of a sword. It is in good overall condition with matching serial numbers on the bayonet and scabbard, and the locking mechanism works well. The engraving on the spine of the blade indicates that the bayonet was manufactured at the French Imperial Armory at Saint Etienne in 1869. The blade is in excellent condition, with no rust, and just a few tiny nicks in the blade. The crosspiece, and the rest of the brass grip and pommel are solid, with virtually no current rust or pitting. The scabbard is also in good shape, with only a couple of tiny dings and surface rust. I want $100 shipped for the bayonet. Here’s a reference for it:

Next up is a Swiss M1889/11 bayonet for the Schmidt-Rubin M1911 7.5mm rifle. Its serial number gives it a manufacturing date around WW1 at the Waffenfabrik Neuhausen factory. The bayonet itself is in fair condition, and the lock mechanism works well. The blade is in good shape at 11.75”, with only a few tiny nicks, and still has the factory sharpening. The crosspiece, and the rest of the grip and pommel are solid…..but there is some old rusting on parts of the crosspiece and pommel where the hand rubs against. The scabbard is fully functional and locks the blade in place, but it has a couple of dents in it and some surface rusting. I want $45 shipped for the bayonet. Here’s a reference for it:
