I don't use this and figured someone out there may! This comes w/ an additional loading vise (pictured) for testing straight razors as well. There is a ton of the standardized BESS media left, along w/ a bunch of Feather razor blades (I only used one or two). Comes w/ the manual(s). Asking SOLD to me which included STYD in the CONUS (will ship world wide if you pay extra shipping fees).
Here is what the manufacturer says about it:
'Over a thousand users in 11 countries can attest to that now. Many of our customers tell us that they have achieved +/- 1 gram accuracies with their KN100's. The KN100, introduced in March of 2015, is EOU's flagship product for knife makers, knife sharpening professionals and serious enthusiasts. Our KN100 customers are equally enthusiastic about their new found ability to discuss sharpness data in a quantifiable manner because the KN100, like all our sharpness testers, is linked to the BESS. There is no longer a need to slice tomatoes, or shave hair off your body. Sharpness data is simply expressed as a number now.
The KN100 achieves it's high accuracy via it's simple design. The KN100 is very much an analog sensor front end. There are no electronic components to drift so the KN100 stays in perfect calibration at all times. The KN100 output does not convert it's output to digital so there are no restrictions on resolution either. Usually the output of the KN100 is weighed in grams and you are free to choose the quality and resolution of the weighing scale that matches your needs. The KN100 is built on a very solid platform using precision parts. Your electronic scale might fail but the KN100 will likely last more than a lifetime.
Sharpness measurements are taken with the KN100 by slowly adding mass (shot, bb's, water etc.) to a container that sits atop the circular platen attached to the piston shaft. When a sufficient amount of mass has been added, the test media that rests on and at right angles across the knife edge, severs. To convert the output (amount of mass in container) to a BESS score simply weigh the output in grams. The number of grams is your BESS score. The KN100 will measure everything from a razor blade to a 3/16" wide blade. The basic package includes everything you need to start measuring edges and includes 500 grams of lead shot."
