I made a 9.5 to 10" 10mm Spike out of Cold rolled Steel. I am looking swap it for something cool. The Spike has a front and rear taper to help hold the 550 cord in place, then cold blued, and wrapped with OD 550 cord.
The spike was ground by hand on a small electric grinder. Traded to ooitzoo.
