About a dozen years ago I was given a damascus Bear lockback folder. It went into the attic without ever cutting a thing, and I found it the other day and would like to trade it for a Becker larger than a bk14 or a similar fixed blade. Email at jalexand@umces.edu.

Thanks.

Very nice Damascus blade and quality knife. This knife is 512 folded layers of Damascus. According to Ken Griffey of Bear MGC last year they made a slight change in their Damascus recipe to 416 folded layers. Evidently the company very much liked the result of the 416 when using it on some very high end knifes. Though a big change after 21 years! This is a great knife of full USA manufactured quality. I especially like the Alabama Damascus blade. A custom Damascus would easily fetch minimum of a $100 an inch before considering scales and bolsters. Wow, someone will be getting a real treat!

Apparently you're the only person who thinks so. I posted this almost three months ago and never heard a peep. Oh well, back to the attic.

Thanks for the kind words. Much appreciated!

it seams that people here don't think that the bear mgc is that good of a knife. I never had any problems with any of there knifes.

It's really a great looking knife. It's just not something I would use, and I hate to have it just sitting in the attic. I have a 2 year old son, so I'll just put it back in storage until he's old enough not to stab his sister or the dog. I would have been thrilled if someone had said "hey I'll trade you a BK15 for it", but no worries. I'll just make sure my wife knows about the 15 before my birthday hits!

I must say that I carry a Bear and Son MGC model 505D EDC. The Damascus is superb and excellent snap, fit and finish. I hand picked mine in 2008 out of my local knife shop. I had three to choose from though all were choice selections. I just liked the Damascus pattern better on the one I picked. I find that this knife is easy to sharpen, keeps a wicked edge and holds up to daily use. The customer service department is excellent and so is the lifetime warranty though I have never used it.
Always someone from there staff is eager to answer my questions or visit with me. I hope you keep this piece of Americana!
