I have an excellent condition, very little used (97%) Leatherman Core. The blade was run across the DMT and is very sharp. Most of the implements are unused. I want to trade this for an older Gerber Multitool. Palm Pinchers are fine. Looking for needle nose. Used, good condition is fine. I also have some SAKs to trade.

Thanks for looking,

Dylan

Dylan,

It looks like you're starting to take an interest in Gerber, especially the ones with a needle nose. Unfortunately, I already traded it away but you may find it interesting that the first Gerber multi-plier with a needle nose was called the "Needlenose Multi-Plier" ... and also "Pocket Survival Tool"!

I do have a couple Gerbers that may (or may not) interest you. One is the second version of the multi-plier. It has a blunt pliers (the "needlenose multi-plier" didn't appear until later. I also have a "Fiskars" Multi-Plier that's marked "Gerber" on the blade and "Simmonds" on the file. Fiskars bought Gerber back in 1986 (ref: Levine's Guide p 54 and Goins' Encyclopedia p 108). The first multi-plier was announced in late 1991 (ref: original announcement) and appeared in the 1992 Gerber catalog (ref: 1992 catalog). The first version (not available for trade but I can keep an eye out for you if you want one) had scissors and a polished finish. The second version is shown in the photo above. The Fiskars Multi-Plier is a later version but it is still pre-locking. Both the Gerbers are unused but there are some speckles of tarnish on some of the parts. I also have a used Wenger Swiss army knife available for trade. I'll trade the whole lot for the Core and the Mercator from your other post.

Jake

P.S.

You might find this post from Levine's forum interesting:
Gerber was "still Gerber" for a while after Fiskars bought it. Not any more...

The irony was that Fiskars bought it ONLY for the Balance Plus line of kitchen knives, found out too late that Pete G had cooked the books on those, and they had never made a profit. Fiskars was about to cut their losses and shut it down... when the new Multi-Plier surpassed 500,000 units in its first year on the market (Pete had turned down the Leatherman tool, in part because it would have complicated selling the company).

Try posting MUCH bigger photos when you get the knife. I or someone else might be able to tell more then.

I up for that. I can send tomorrow. I don't have your address. So drop me an email when you get a chance. Yea, I'm starting to like these Gerbers a good bit for work. Especially being on the ladder lately. The one hand opening comes in handy LOL! Thanks for all the info and the thread.

Oh, can you use a Vic Hiker? I have no need for it. I can throw it in the package for ya with the Core and the Merc.
