I was told the reason it's a factory second is the latch takes a little bit more pressure to operate and there is some wierd type of blade play. When I was at the factory store the salesman had to call another one over to tell him which one the second was because they got mixed up when he was showing me a second and a normal one. I bought this less than a week ago and have flipped it around a little. I don't see anything that would let you know that it's not brand new. I just decided flipping a balisong around is not for me. The blade grind is high on one side and it's got a notch that marks it as a second. Never sharpened, I think I might have cut some paper with it. It's got a coating of break free clp on the blade to prevent rust in humid Oklahoma. It has 440C steel too. I'll throw in a 2005 catalog too.
