So I am thinking about picking up the Wuertz surface grinder attatchment. I know, I would prefer a full size surface grinder, but space doesn't allow for one right now.

I was curious if anyone has one and how they like it? Also I can't seem to find what size arm it comes with? I assume 1 1/4", but could I use a 1.5" with a some modification. I have a horizontal grinder setup, so I don't need the KMG style kit.

I've got one for my KMG and I really like it. It's well made and has made a huge difference in my knife making. (Not that you need any help as your work is top notch already) Have you tried calling Travis regarding what size to get? He has always been very responsive to my questions.

Ben, I think that the horizontal mounted one made for the TW-90 uses Bader sized parts.

I like mine as well.My tooling arm for the KMG is 1 1/2 O.D. The tool has to be used fast with no pause,so it's best to check clearance on the entire work piece before grinding.A slight pause will cause a divot if taking a large bite.I would also highly recommend getting the larger size.

On a side note my next experiment with this tool will be to rough in bevels on flat grinds.(to get them close to speed things up) Good luck,Lu

I love mine. I had to move into a smaller shop space where I couldn't fit my stand along 6x12 harig so its been a life saver for me to still be able to surface grind in a small work space.

So it comes with an 1 1/4" arm, correct? I can shim it or modify a larger armi suppose.

I milled 1/4 off the first eight inches of a 1 1/2 inch aluminum bar on two sides and used the hardware for the KMG adaptor to make the Wuertz surface grinder fit my Polar Bear Forge grinder mounted horizontal and it works great. Larry Lehman

That's what I was thinking, thanks Larry!

Ben you better check, the arm that came with mine is tube.

Yours is the vertical version for the KMG though, right. That's fine anyway, I would just replace the arm with a solid 1.5" and mill the end.
Either way I'll give him a call before I order. I was hoping to maybe find a used one someone wasn't using anymore.

A little late to the party here, but I have one (as well as one of his TW-90 grinders to attach it to) and love it. Not sure how I got along all those years without it. Like Lu1967, I find it best to move quickly and take off a little bit at a time.
