It is pretty much as Satin mentioned above. The knife uses the lower portion of the French bayonet and mates it to the handle of a F-S commando dagger. The blade is steel, and the handle is aluminum, and it is held together by an internal tang. The result works really well. The pieces fit together perfectly. If you look in Stephen's Fighting Knives, you will find photos of several several similar examples; Including the officially produced Italian Fascist MVSN poniard. This nice example was possibly made by someone in the combat theater. The modifications are hand made, and the results were very effective.
