The guys at UPS must really be on their toes this week. He rumbled up the driveway about 20 minutes ago carrying a package from Cystern.

WWIII #5 has come home at last!

I am truely amazed. The blade is perfect. It is a deep matte blue, almost black. The finish is very even and expertly applied. On the right hand side just above the cho is the GH logo in Devengari (sp?) The left side, between the cho and the grips reads: NEPAL
WWIII
5
It appears to have been stamped. the lettering is perfectly even and alligned.
The Sword of Shiva is not the traditionaly stamped kind that I am used to. It is actually a 1/8" wide groove that appears to have been cut into the metal. It originates under the grips and runs straight as an arrow to the curve in the spine.
I'm not sure that i can describe the handle any better than what you can see in Craig's pix. It is very comfortable and fits my hand perfectly. The matte OD green micarta is somewhat rough. it's rough enogh to give you some traction but not so rough as to raise hot spots. This texturing combined with the traditional swell at the bottom of the handle and the swell that Bob has incorporated into the top of the grips should keep the knife anchored securely in my hand.
It is very well balanced.

The sheith is a wonder in and of itself. The blade fits perfectly and is VERY secure. The ballistic nylon strap that snaps around the handle probably isn't needed but is nice to have. It appears as though the sheith will accomodate several different modes of carry. Low on the leg and high on the hip are immeditely apparent. The upper portion of the belt loop has plasic buckle which could come in handy. The lower half of the sheith has 7 eyelets which should be handy for lashing to sheith to your leg or a pack.

WARNING!!!!!!!!!
The blade also comes with a traditional sheith. It is very nicely made and is well put together. The leather is very thick and sturdy. The WWIII fits perfectly into the traditional sheith but upon extracting the blade the tight fitting sheith left some nasty scratches on the blade! OUCH!! Purely cosmetic mind you but still..... The karda and chakma are tiny and of adaquate quality.
I'd been on the fence as to whether or not I would use this blade or not as use would surely affect it's collecters value. Since it's already scratched I guess I'll just have to use her. Besides, as my wife pointed out, I'll never sell this thing anyway!
So far the WIII has exceded my every expectation. It is truely unique and should make a worthy companion.
By the way,it drew blood already.(this new sheith will take some etting used to!) I think it's ready to see some action!

Sounds like a nice blade. I didn't find out about these until just a few days ago, do you know if Craig is going to do another batch? Also, what are the dimensions of the blade and handle, roughly?

Thanks, Jaeger, for the report. It makes me look forward all the more to receiving mine.

I`ll say UPS must be on their toes,I got #6 today! Jaeger pretty much said it all,it`s really awesome! The workmanship on both the WWIII and sheath are very good and make for an impressive combo. There`s only one problem ,I have size XL hands and the grip is just not quite big enought for me. Doh doh doh!

The ergonomics are great,my mutant hands are the problem. I have to handle it for awhile and see if I can get used to it,if not (as much as I hate to say it!) I may have to put it up for sale an get a another traditional khukuri with a larger grip instead and have Scott sheath it for me. To those who haven`t recieved theirs yet,as long as you don`t have gorilla paws you`re really gonna love it!!!

Well, I already got dibs!

Sorry Machete. I've got a list of people ready to buy them. Of course, Marcus is free to sell to whoever he wants, but I'd sure like it back.

(no offense, Machete

).

Also, regarding the sheath - I should have warned people - DONT use it unless you are willing to entertain a few scratches. They CAN be repaired with some home remedy gun blue, but best not to use it.

And as for the blood, I too have drawn blood with SOMEBODY's WWIII - I don't remember whose, but they WILL bite if you're not careful.

The blade was pretty dull as delivered so I went to work on it today. After about 15 minutes with a ceramic stick (actually, one of those little Gatco 3 sided ceramic hones) WWIII #5 is razor sharp.

I decided to go groundhog hunting today so I strapped the WWIII on to my web belt that I use to carry a canteen, extra ammo and various other little items. What a difference from the traditional sheiths! The profile is very slim and stays close to your body. It never got in the way while I was walking around, sitting down or proned out behind the rifle. It just sits snugly on the hip like a good pistol!
Extracting the blade from the sheith is still a little difficult. There is a trick to it that makes the extraction quick and easy but I need more practice. Just like a new holster!
All in all I am very impressed with the sheith. Scott will definitely be getting more of my khukris in the future.
Hopefully I will be able to test out the blade this weekend. We all know what a good performer the WWII is so I don't expect any suprises in the blade department but I am anxious to see how the new handle feels when working with the knife. I have a feeling that Bob's craftsmanship will really shine through.

Took her out for a bit of chopping today. Nothing very strenuous as I didn't have much time.

No surprises here. It performs on par with with my 15" Ang Kohla. After about 10-15 minutes of chopping and splitting various pieces of hardwood the edge had lost it's razor edge but not by much. It was still VERY sharp and a few passes with the ceramic hone brought the razor back. The finish was undamaged.

The handle passes a small amount of shock to my pinkie finger when doing full force chops at a 90 degree angle to the wood. No shock was noticable any other time.

Hello I got # 35 last Thursday. Mine was not sharp at all. That didn't stop me from chopping a whole lot of wood. A few minuits on the SHARPMAKER and now it is sharp, not razor sharp but sharp enough. I really like this knife. The finish on mine is comming off pretty easily with use but I expected it to. No big deal because I plan on using this knife every chance I get! It has replaced my BUSSE STEELHART as my camp knife, for now anyway. Will post more later.

UPS must have slipped off the toes. Mine has been sitting in Il since 8:26 am June 30. Hasn't budged an inch.
