I have been here at bladeforums a little while and love it. Who is this other forum and how long have they been trying to compete with Bladeforums?

Knifeforums.com has been "competing" even before Bladeforums existed

Mike Turber used to help run it, and Spark was a big player in keeping it running. For various reasons Mike and Spark started Bladeforums, and it just took off. Age wise though, knifeforums is older.

Knifeforums is older than bladeforums...some of us escaped and came here.
It is a good site.....at least you don't have to tolerate my smartarse comments there as I was excommunicated for them.
Sorry, my keyboard made me say it.

I wont go there again.

Hrmm. they recently changed ownership didnt they? They are a good forums, I was there before I came here, but I am running out of time to spend on knives so I just go here. Knifeforums is a pretty cool place though, if it wasn't for them I wouldn't have really gotten into knives. (actually i got interested in them after I read a big article about Emerson knives back in 1997 and saw some cold steel advertisements, then went to the cold steel forums and after it shut down i went to knifeforums where i got really into it....)

Much has happened between the two sites in the past. But, they ARE in the past. As far as I know, both sites co-exist peacefully and I see no reason why we can't do the same.

Yep.....changed hands.
But their chief exorciser is still there.

Bloody keyboard keeps doing it !

Hey, don't feel like a cheater! www.knifeforums.com is a very similar site to this one and if you like this one you'll probably like that one too. There isn't any competition going on, in fact many of us hang out at both sites and we don't feel we're cheating anyone at all -- least of all the owners of the sites; they both promote each other's sites and recommend them.

Knifeforums recently changed owners, and in the interim it was down for a while and people got out of the habit of going there ... the new owner is trying to build it back up and let's all pitch in and help! I particularly recommend the new Riddle of Steel forum there for anyone who's interested in martial arts.

P.S. There are some other forums on knives and related topics scattered around the net, too -- I think you'll find all of them in the links section of this website. Some focus on one maker or manufacturer, others are more general. Bladeforums is the biggest site, but don't overlook the others....

I do go there sometimes, but there isnt much activity. So, after 10 mins, i come back to BF where the action never stops! Not a bad site, just not a very active one.

Well a similar question was asked by Sal Glesser (President of Spyderco) over a year ago!

Here is the thread.

Take a look! It is very interesting reading.

You get to see the history of BFC.
You get to see some of my predictions for BFC. Pay close attention to the 8:11 PM post.
All of those promises have come to pass!

It is a funny thread too as you near the bottom

KnifeForums is now under new ownership and Jim is trying hard to turn the ship around. Funny thing he is a ship's captain so he should be able to do it.

Knifeforums is a good site and will only get better with time under the new ownership. I go there everyday, and here too, and Microholics too, Wife "Turn that thing off and come to bed!!!"

Also don't forget Mad Dog has a forum over at www.tacticalforums.com . They are a bit smaller and more focused on custom/tactical(as the name might imply

) knives then knives in general.

Sincerely,
Adam

Self improvement is a hobby of mine :).

There isn't really any competition guys, there's enough pie for everyone to have a slice.

To make a very long and ugly story a bit shorter... I created KnifeForums.com when I worked for CFKAT. Mike was brought on as the General Forum moderator. Then Mike was fired. Then I quit about 9 months or so after KnifeForums.com was started.

Mike and I teamed up to create BladeForums.com, and over a year later we're doing pretty well.

KFC changed hands a few months ago, and Jim is doing a great job overcoming the resident bad karma that was left there, I have every confidence that he will be able to develope it even further.

In the meantime, life is good for everyone, right?

I made a post there a few days ago which was similar to one I posted here listing my three favorite new knives from the SHOT show. Because I had provided links to our site so people could see images and descriptions of those products, I got an unfriendly email from the owner explaining that my post was too commercial because it promoted our site. He said it was inappropriate for me to enter the forum and not contribute something by responding to a question. I had responded elsewhere to a question on another thread with no links to our site because it wasn't appropriate for that response. This particular post was a response to a similar post the unfriendly owner had entered himself about new knives at the SHOT show. I didn't say I didn't like the ones he had mentioned. I just mentioned a few that I thought were important and interesting to me. I don't suggest my opinion is any better than anybody else's. I was just expressing mine for whatever anybody thinks it's worth. I thought people might like to see what they look like and my site already has images so I provided a link.

Naturally, I'm always interested in promoting our site but my post was meant to be informative even though it was nothing more than an expression of my opinion. Most posts on the forums are expressions of opinion anyway. I didn't ask anybody to order anything. I simply said that I liked a few new knives that I saw at the show and anyone interested could go to our site for images and descriptions of them. Going there was purely optional and, as the logs indicate, quite a few people did go there using the links. So I guess I didn promote the site.

I like to think our site is a useful resource for information about knives as well as being an on-line store. Yes, it's commercial. Knife Forums, as you know, is a commercial site also just like BladeForums.

I certainly felt discouraged about posting anything else there and it reversed a decision I had already made to buy a banner ad on the site. One forum is enough for me anyway since my time is definitely limited. Sorry for the rant. Take care.

I was a knifeforum member before a bladeforum member. Spark, Mike and fellow forumites have done a great job here. But knifeforums is slowly turning around and I still go there.

For martial bladecraft oriented folks, you're missing alot if you don't visit Keating's forum.
