X-15 Steel

Jeff :

could you give us a comparison number or two from some familiar steels?

What you often see listed are the un-notched values as they are much higher. Anyway, notched charpy impact values :

X15TN : 7.5 ft.lbs

Stellite 6 B : 6.0 ft.lbs

I am collecting this kind of information on blade steels in general but it is slow going.

Tobse :

You tested Your Battle mistress for corrosion resistance ?

Yes, it is fairly high. I have stopped using a protectant on it. I have also poured water on it and stuck it back in the sheath and let it overnight to dry. You will get surface rust that comes off easy. I have done 20 hour soaks in salt water on my Basic and its edge gets damaged functionally less than ATS-34 and VG-10 (F1's), and D2 (custom). I will be doing the same thing with my BM eventually.

Tobse -
Any chance of getting a picture of the knives you mentioned were also being made by Boker using X15 (90A & 90S)? Where could I find a copy of this catalog in the US?

Thanks for the pictures of the corrosion resistance tests you posted earlier. I have been looking for color versions of those for some time.
Todd

Todd, You can try this link :
Gemini Folders
The X-15 version looks alike but for the different handle colours and a partially serrated edge. Boker USA will send You a catalogue - I don't know wether the new Geminis are already in there.

Take care,
Tobse !

Tobse -
Being from Germany, you would not happen to know about a knife show taking place in Solingen next week, would you? I have been having trouble finding information. I thought I might get lucky asking you.

Thanks,

Offline for the weekend - Sorry for the late reply, Todd. Checking the 'Messermagazin', I can't find notice of a knifeshow in Solingen next weekend. There will be one on 6-7 May in the Klingenmuseum (blade museum) at Solingen (I'll try to be there :-) )

Take care,
Tobse !

I think this thread is part of a corupt file. My answer after the first question was part of another thread. Weird
