since my nepheew is turning 16 next month and is one of the few who ever really showed interest in knives i am gonna give him one for X-mas, already talked to his folks they think he'll be fine with it, but which one?

have narrowed it down to 4,

1) CRKT small Kasper Pro

2) BM 800S

3) BM 804 prototype

4) BM mini AFCK

hate to give him a CRKT so it'll prbably be one of the BMs, i was thinking the 800S he would probably like the bigger ones(most 16 yr olds would).

any suggestions? right now he carries a chinese POS kinda like a delica, so he does edc one (except to school of course).

every time i see him he wants to see my new knife, he loved my MT makora and strider AR, i do think he'll be a "nut" before long if he isnt already lol.

he also loves corvettes, hey he's batting .1000 so far lol.

his mom said he would really be suprised,

From the list you mentioned I think the 800 and 804 are both good choices.

Also think of the Spyderco Chinook, or the Manix, or the Al Mar sere 2000. If he liked your Strider folders then maybe you could get him a Buck/strider folder. I think it's about the same price or less then the others you listed.

Oh, the BM 550 griptilian is another good option.

Good luck!

Spyderco Manix?

An axis-locked Benchmade, such as the new 610 beast from Blackwood?

Spyderco Chinook II?

Greco Whisper if any are still in stock?

Get him a REAL delica, maybe? And tell him to come over to Corvetteforum.com (i was there since I was 12-13)

Well I would give him a benchmade, good stuff the paramilitary would be good too, being a benchmade fan thats what I go with

after some thought he's getting the 800S, i think he'll enjoy is as much as any of them.

maybe when he turns 18 if he has taken care of the 800 i'll get him a strider SnG.

Does S mean Serrated ? In my opinion if you want to buy him a good knife that will be "easy" to resharpen and versatile, you "must" take a plain edge...
Personnaly, i don't like serrated blade and find plain's one much more usefull...
So BM 800 wil be good...Better (i find...) is the BM 710HS : tactical look (but less than the 800) and better design for general chores ...

I'll vote for "none-of-the-above".

Get him something very useful like a Leatherman that he can use for more than just cutting. That's the first knife I bought my son at that age (who is now an Army Ranger captain carry an automatic Microtech MSE-SC and an M-4 rifle).

If you have to have a tool that is straight knife I would recommend the Benchmade #10400 PIKA, great 440C steel, easy ambidexterous (sp?) opening, won't break the bank. For a few more bucks the Benchmade #550 Griptillian is hard to beat.

I like the 800S and all the AFCK knives but think I'd hold off a bit until he is older as they are a bit more tactical and a 16 year old already has enough piss-and-vinegar in his system.

I'll still vote for Leatherman. It will be very useful if he ever gets a Vette!

If he likes serrations (I'm a fan of them) the Spyderco 79mm Rescue knife is a great cutter as is their new blood-red Calypso Jr. with ZDP-189 super steel.

maybe when he turns 18 if he has taken care of the 800 i'll get him a strider SnG.

My sister had her first kid this year so reading this thread is giving me an idea of what I'll probably be parting with in 15 years aswell :)
