my pashon for knive making has expanded into guns now :D. i am needing a jeweling rod for my drill press and thought i would ask around. i have been using sand paper on the end of a pencial eraser. it works ok but i would like to get better results. here is what i have been working on. pictures in next post.

the barrel has been jeweled and all the engraved words and logos have been filled in with white fingernail polish. looks just amazing now.

what you think. this is my every day carry. i know its not a knife but my knife skills are what helped me do it ;)

Looks good! I have seen a dowel shaped rod that you can chuck up in a drill that does what you are describing. Sorry I can't remember the name. It was on that Spike TV show "Trucks." Hope this helps.

I've seen jeweling supplies on the brownells site and Jantz supply has a few options as well. If I remember correctly there's a few different options, i.e. using a small wire brush with an abrasive compound, an abrasive charged rubber deal, and cratex rods.

looking good JT. My Glock barrel is coated, so no jewling for it. I could buy a wolf drop in and do it I guess, they aren't too expensive.

The only gun I have actually done any mods on you can't see them. I broke the sharp edges on the inside corners of the face of the hammer on this Ruger with a file. It was very sharp and grabby ( I got a piece of cloth stuck in it , and it locked up, and the edge was so sharp I could not just pull the fabric out) So I smoothed out a few edges on the hammer face. I need to smooth the back side of the trigger, and the edge where the cylinder push rod goes in is still sharp.

We used to do that to Beretta handguns at the range with liquid paper to fill in the lettering and logo just for fun :)

dont you just love that gun. im going to be having a match grade barrel installed. im thinking of leaving the barrel longer so it sticks out past the end of the slide by .5-.75 and get it ported on the top. so when shot the fire shoots out the top holes. i also hope it will add stablety to the slug.

JT, the Glock was a good choice for my wife to use. If I am not around there are no buttons to push, just a mag release. It is factory compensated, and she can shoot it very well. I bought that one before the XD.45 ever hit the shelves. I was going to buy a SigSauer but after introducing one to the wife and trying to explain the safety, de-cocker and the slide release (no, honey, that is the decocker not the slide release) decided to just go with the Glock and save the extra dough.

That XD looks great! I might have to do that to one of the models I have. The XD is my carry model as well; it is an awesome gun at an awesome price.

Looked at getting the match grade barrel as well, but strongly insist that if you plan on carrying it for protection purposes DO NOT port the barrel. That makes the gun practically useless in a night-time situation.
