XDm 9mm or .40 I need some help

I picked the .40 myself. I've heard to many bad things about the ballistics on the 9mm.

at one time the 9MM was rather anemic but with todays bullets being designed to feed and expand well i would wager that you could not tell the difference in gel of the wound tracks of the 9MM, .40 & .45ACP, i know i couldnt tell the difference, now gel isnt the end all tell all but complaints from police depts using the 9MM concerning its effectiveness have dropped off to next to none with the new 124 and 147 gr stuff.

now if ya like .40s cool, i have no problem with that but if ya think ya are getting way better performance in the .40 vs a 9MM thats just not the case any more, the new ranger/gold dot and golden sabre ammo works.

I'd go with the 9mm.
There is plenty of good 9mm ammo out there and practice will be cheaper.
I carry 9mm at work and my department now offers the choice of 9mm, .40 and .45.
I shoot better with the 9mm and can carry more rounds.

Genreally, if one must ask "which is better, 9mm, .40 or .45?" then the answer is 9mm.

In reality the question should not be which caliber is the best, but which caliber in your weapon of choice do you shoot the best.

Considering the other factors in gun purchase the 9mm is cheaper to shoot, follow up shots tend to be quicker if comparing identical platforms, and larger capacity. Even with the cost advantages of 9mm I personally only own .40 and .45 caliber handguns.

Many complain about the recoil of the .40 but personally it doesn't bother me. I've found that the key to shooting .40 well is choosing a weapon that has a low bore axis or is physically larger.

Shoot your weapon of choice in both 9mm and .40 and pick the one you shoot the best. It doesn't matter what caliber the weapon is if you can't consistently place the bullet where you want. Shot placement is the final verdict.
