Seen some Boar Spears with a crossbar to stop the blood-mad, fatally wounded creature getting vengeance on the hunter. Check out this page I found: http://hometown.aol.com/vanishwood/other/hunt2.htm

I've also read that Tigers were hunted with Tridents for the same reason.

That's interesting. The only thing that comes to mind in choosing bronze over steel might be increased weight. But you would think that the last thing you would want with a fast deadly cat is a heavy spear. Then again maybe they are hard to stick and that extra weight gives it more uumph
