Found a moment in my hectic day to snap these pics, had to find the brightest area at work, a storage area.
Snapped using an iPhone so not the best but enough to convey the size.

The split photos are -

XM-18 3.5" on the left and XM-18 3" on the right.

- Enjoy.

Fantastic comparison pics. You did a great job keeping your distances as close as possible so that size was not affected by proximity! This will be very helpful for people deciding on which to get for their first!!!!

Only way it could have been "improved" is if you used a Gen 3 3.5 with its stop pin in similar position as that Gen 2 3".

The most recent 3" are still Gen 2. By "plain" you mean "non-Spanto"?
Adding the Slicer to production did not deem a new generation.

Sorry, not non-spanto or slicer. What I meant was no R. Hinderer on the blade. Those are just Gen 1s apparently.

Think I was getting my 3" Gens and 3.5" Gens mixed up.

Great stuff!
I own both sizes and am aware of the size differences but for those who don't this may be very helpful.
Thanks for sharing:)

Thank you posting the pics. I have been going back and forth between the 3" and the 3.5" XM-18's and this post really has made up my mind. I was leaning to the 3" and now have definitely decided to go that route. I have enough larger knives and want something more "pocketable".

Cool, I thought you might have meant the marking but I was in a hurry, so sorry for my sloppiness. It happens.

Dont worry about it; most people confuse the generations and it is one of those things that's difficult to explain. A lot of variables to consider.

yes, very helpful. Thanks for the comparison. Maybe one day I'll be able to pick up a 3.5 for myself. Cheers.

Thank you all so much for the great feedback.

I've been meaning to due this for a while, I remember the difficult time I had when trying to decide which Hinderer to pursue for my first (and only at the time, so I thought).

A good friend in the Hinderer forum helped me out with similar photos which help me immensely in focusing my efforts on my first XM which, as it happens remains my favourite XM and my daily EDC despite now owning a few other XMs.
