Nice pics! I've got all 3 sizes myself, and each seems to fit a niche for me.

Thanks!
Wolfe you've to many niches!
:p

No I don't, I have enough knives to fill them. :D

Oh wait!!! Did I just say I have enough knives? Never! I can never have enough knives!!!!!! :foot: That's like saying I have too many purses!

You are a female, Lone Wolfe??? Interesting. I'm still waiting for my first XM-18. Already two days late and the postal system's tracking is not up to par. And I'm waiting for my paid membership to process. Time for valium.

Awesome pics. For everyone trying to decide, I would go with the 3.5" first and then the 3". You can't go wrong with the 3.5".

Yep, sure am. :p And I'm waiting anxiously on a nice Seb, so I share your pain. But you can't have my valium or my pain meds. :D

I've never heard anyone comment on the comparative degree of detent hold on the 3 different sizes of XM. Is there any "normal" appreciable difference in the 3 sizes ? Is this degree of detent hold only related to the amount of lock bar tension or is there something else involved? Thanks for the insight.
B.
Edit: Also - are the standard standoffs Ti like the anodized Ti replacements or are they S.S. like the screws? Thanks.

Detent is a conversational topic that can spiral into argument. Basically every XM can be tweaked with pivot and lock bar adjustment. It's not for amatures or unskilled to go at without caution, but the confident and mechanically inclined can do what needs done to better the adjustments. When in doubt always contact the shop before doing anything to your knife you are unsure about.

Standard standoffs are stainless. That's why plain Ti is offered as an ungrade / official modification.

Now we're talkin'. That's conversation I'd love to hear.
Seems to me that it's a topic that benefits us all as it applies to safety as well as smoothness of deployment.
Thanks for your input brother.

No thank you, I said about all I want to say on that topic. It's a well-beaten dead horse.

I try my best not to start arguments in the forums. My words were those of caution, not invitation for discussion.

The problem is that what one person considers perfect, another will say is too stiff and another will say isn't stiff enough. I've not seen it discussed in this area but I have seen it in other parts of this forum and it never ends well.

Just noticed in my post #34 I mistakenly typed "ungrade". Meant to be stated as "upgrade".

I cannot edit that post as it when then say "edited" and could be mistakenly viewed as I altered my words/message within.

In addition to what has already been said, Rick has tweaked the detent as well over the years in light of feedback (and when I say tweaked, I mean really minor adjustments). But, it is an area that area will you will never truly win, not everyone will be completely happy as "Capbyrd" stated. I look at it this way, if you get an equal amount of people complaining it is too stiff and too loose, you have hit the sweet spot.

I thought "amatures" was interesting as well... :-)

Wait, what? ;-)

I know what you mean but edit away until you get it right, who cares why you edited, whether misspelling, context, verbiage, etc.
