XM-18 next run?

Direct from Hinderer - $375

From a dealer - $550

They are highly desirable and worth the price you pay for them.

For LEO, when the XM-18's become available (hopefully around the beginning of September if my math is right), how are orders placed? Email through the website, or can we call it in?

I would like to know what blade steel is currently being used. If it is CTS-XHP, I'm in 100%. S35VN, not so much.

Some dealers charge less than 550 and some charge more. I know of one that gets 450 and one that gets 700. Crazy.

Heard from Mr. Orlando the other day, and he stated they are now at least 4 weeks out on the XM-18 run.

This is why I'll probable never own Hinderer knife. Demand is a lot higher than production and dealers jack the prices up way above MSRP. Well I played that game in the mid 90's with Harley. I won't do it again. I guess I'll just have to get by with my 551 and the up coming 560.

It's going to take a hell lot of luck to score one of those new slicer grinds, at least for me- won't have time to hawk them.

I got a reply from Rob a month or so ago to contact him in 6 weeks. My XM18 disappeared so I am getting in on this batch if I don't miss it. This to me is the "one and only perk" of working in a jail.

I wonder if we can order it with the titanium scale instead.

A mark up of the first two is not at all out of line. These guys have to make a buck right? OR - there'd be no successful knife shops online for us to buy from. Most online merchants "keystone" there products or "double ther cost to realize a 100% return on their investment. Thank goodness most knife companies don't especially Rick's merchant network.

They have to pay their overhead, advertising, domain names, webhosting fees, many have to profit share with their webhosts (Yahoo Stores pay a % of the sale), many have a listing fee based on how many products are listed, merchant processing fees (paying to take credit cards and even more to issue a credit!), employees and the list goes on.

I'm happy with 99% of online merchantswhen I see what Spyderco or Benchmade charges MSRP. Rick's XM's are a fluid market with rarely a bargain and sometimes a very high price tag. But an XM-18/24 is built to last a lifetime. :D

You know, I take back what I said earlier. I have always 100% supported a free market and I have argued several times that there is no such thing as "Price Gouging". You charge what people are willing to pay. That's how it's suppose to and should always work.

That means if you're going to be mad about high prices then the people who pay them are the ones who are responsible for them. If people would stop paying them then they would go down.

Like I said in my earlier post. Demand is higher than production which is driving up prices. I'll wait for production to go up or demand to go down before I buy one. I'm not mad about the current retail prices but I am unwilling to pay them. I have plenty of quality knives to put in my pocket in the mean time.

Price, demand aside.....
The first time I held a XM was when RH handed me one in June. Instantly I knew I was holding one of if not the best folders ever produced. Of course this is subjective, but was reaffirmed when I received my XM-24.

Kinda nice being able to focus on my fixed blades as when it comes to the best folder for me, the search is over.
