Xm-18 worth it?

I refuse to pay double what they originally sell for, so it's not worth it in my opinion, unless you can get one directly from Rick.
My buddy has had a gen 4 slicer for almost a year and he won't carry it because he's scared to scratch it up and lose resale value.
His Gen 4 also has a very weak detent, but i think Rick can fix that if you send it to him.

I had Hinderer sold it still keeping my sebenza, but its a good knife for reasonable price not secondary market.Waiting for my custom demko ad-10 in m390.:)

I will not pay the huge markup the secondary markets demands, so I don't own one. What I will say is that CRK are very worth it and not marked up.

IMO they are worth it considering the quality. I would get what you want and don't think twice.

I've read that about either a particular run or generation which has then since been firmed up again.

I have a 4th generation 3.5". It has NOT been firmed up. At least, not in my knife. I carry it tip down.

The economy isn't at its best, so thinking twice before buying anything that expensive would probably be a good idea.
You're better off getting one of your first responder buddies to order one for you.

I have a XM-18 3" flipper and the 3.5" (4th gen) flipper. I paid secondary price for each, since I don't "know" anyone. They are the finest production knife out there. The 3" is a bit too small for my hand, but then, so is a small Sebenza. The 3.5" XM-18 is basically the same size as a large Sebenza, although heavier and a thicker blade-steel in the Spanto design. Heavy-duty is what this knife is designed for. The 3.5" XM-18 has a grip-width of 0.535", contrasted to 0.455" for the large Sebbie. However, due to the 3D design of the XM's grip, it doesn't feel thicker.
In general, I would say that the Sebenza is the ideal EDC for casual stuff. The Strider is generally more heavy-duty, and then the Hinderer surpasses the Strider.
I've had about twelve CRK's and perhaps eight or more Striders in all folder basic designs. The Strider is built for heavy-duty and has a tactical design and appearance. They have a different personality than CRKs. The CRKs are more elegant, particularly the Sebenza, although the Umnumzaan has a tactical blade design, a thicker blade and is excellent. Of course, all CRKs are excellent.
Like the folks have said, if you don't like the Hinderer, sell it for what you paid. That can pretty well be said for the Striders and CRKs as well.

Let me just say first that the Hinderer's are top notch, super quality, overbuilt awesome knives.

I had two productions and a custom xm-18. To me the 18 could be a viable edc. The 24 on the other hand is just ridiculous to edc unless you have a job or perform duties that require to carry such a massive knife. To me it feels like your carrying a pair of vice grip pliers or some similar tool in your pocket. It sucks, but I just don't have the need to carry something so robust.

In my opinion once you pass a Spyderco Gayle Bradley, premium steel Military or the like as a cutter the extreme price difference is not worth it. If you want something to beat and and pry on there are many fixed blades for way less money that are far superior. This is just my opinion which is free but comes from 35 years of using knives. Fit and finish and wow factor not withstanding. Buy what you like and make your own decision

Have you checked out his ZT lines? They are really good and at a cheaper price since ZT can flat out make stuff cheaper. If your looking for a Hinderer to use and not to collect I would STRONGLY suggest you check out zt 560,561,550

Thanks for all your input guys if and when I get one I'll be posting plenty of pics.

When is more likely than "if".

I reside about 2hrs. drive N. of Lebanon, TN. I have CRK, Strider and Hinderers that I'll play show-n-tell with. Don't ask me for personal info., but shoot me an e-mail if your travel ever brings you north of Nashville.

No, I'm not selling ANYTHING. This would be for educational purposes only.
