Need expert advice regarding my XM-24 Hinderer scale replacement. I purchased a Monkey's Edge Frag scale. My question is:

When replacing the original scale with the Monkey's Edge scale, do I use a small amount of Blue Loctite on each of the three handle and one Pivot screws? Do I do nothing but replace the screws?
Would like to know if the Loctite will be "Impossible" to deal with later on.
What is the correct tool and size to use to unscrew the pocket clip screws?

Thanks.. usaheadhunter

I have never used Loctite on my Hinderer. If I were to have a problem with a screw backing out, I would put a little Teflon tape on it. You could use Loctite on the same, but use the lowest level (can't remember which one ), but you don't want permanent adhesion.
In general-use nothing

Screw is most likely a 5/64" Hex though he did have some T-8 Torx at one time

According to Hinderer's site, you should not apply loctite to the handle or standoff screws. Only apply it to the pivot screw and even then, just use a little. I can personally attest to this. (Broke handle screws)

Thanks to all for quick reply. I will not put Loctite on the screws. I checked the pocket screws. They are definitely not Torx. The are a type of phillips. They look like a small + slot. I looked at my ZT Kersaw kit and can't find anything that matches. I will check with Hinderer site to find out.

I believe I found the correct screw head type. Pocket Clip screws are Pan head screws. I have word in with RH asking for correct sizes.

Guys... After considerable research (could not believe how difficult it was to find the correct tools to use) I found that the following information. Hope this helps all:

  • [*]Hinderer XM-18 and XM-24 handle screws are 5/64 Allen
[*]Hinderer XM-18 and XM-24 Pocket screws are cross slotted flat. ONLY USE PHILLIPS #1 HEAD. Don't use 0 or 00. You will mar. Hope this helps.

Sorry about that-I should have read the ? better. I thought you were asking about the scale screws. You seem to have the correct info now.
I don't know the source of your info, but there is a Hinderer forum in the Blade forum archives that has some good stickies.
