Xmas comes early

Cute pooch and let me guess Catalina state park?

Close! Behind the new Northwest Hospital on Tangerine Road. There is a hiking trail off of Rancho Vistoso that takes you right there. I've been here at my current home for 6 years and I never knew it was there until I happened upon it in the past month.

Somebody mentioned shedding--so far, so good; it hasn't been that bad at all.

very nice dog. looks like a long haired lab, but also i think your right it, may be a lab retriever mix. either way. awesome dog and they are extremly smart. labs are actually 3rd smartest able to learn over 300 phrases/commands.

What are the 1 and 2 smartest dogs, and is their a link to somewhere I can learn more about dog smartness? I'm being serious. My sister is about to get a pooch, and I'd like to learn training info.

Great dog, OTE...I hope he brings you lots of joy and love. My two dogs are like children to my wife and I.

George, I may be wrong, but I believe the German Shephard is one of the top two. Very intelligent, but highly strong-willed.

Btw...why is it that so many pound puppies look just like Buddy. My sister got a pound puppy about 3 years ago. Lucien looks JUST like Buddy, just a little leaner in build and with a longer snout. Seems like every dog breed in the world has recessive chocolate lab genes. :D

well some sites differ and ill find the one on discovery but the on most it is the Collie as the smartest followed by either the GSD (German Shephard) or the Poodle. Collies are crazy smart and are almost like people to live with. and GSD's are amazing. awesome awesome dogs who are loyal no matter what. the only problem with them is raising them until a year or 2 old. they have so much energy and love to talk to you. I got my GSD and Silver lab at the same time. The GSD is 9 months old now and my lab is 8. The lab is already 95 lbs. pure muscle and the GSD is around 80 lbs pure muscle. The GSD is a girl though so that is why shes smaller. Shes straight off the boat from Germany. Either way you can't go wrong with a lab or GSD or any dog for that matter. just have to take care of it and they will take care of you.

it's because most people with labs tend to throw them outside. and being as smart as they are they dig out or find a way out and they are horny lil buggers. so in the night they sneak off and find partners. But there smart enough to come back. they might not be in the fence but they come back. and the fact of the matter is, its people who leave there dogs outside that arn't neutered and don't care that end up making more dogs that won't have a home or get sent to the pound. Labs and retrievers are the most common dog people own today so thats probably why we see so much of that. sorry for the rambling. ive been training bird dogs for sometime now and i myself have taken in a few of these.

Interestingly, I was told that all-black dogs are usually the last to be adopted out of shelters. For whatever reason, people just prefer other colors. Also, I agree about the spay and neuter thing. I could not believe how many females there were at the shelter that were still lactating due to a recent litter. It's really kind of sad.

Makes sense, Fallon. People should take care of their pets. I think there's a biblical verse (not to open the floodgates) that says something like, "You can tell who a man is by how he takes care of his animals." I agree with that one.

I have two pure-bred pups because I am allergic to pet dander and needed to have a breed that doesn't shed, but I made sure that they are fixed (even though I wish I could have little clones of them both for the rest of my life).

If I didn't have the allergy, I would ALWAYS get from the pound. Matter of fact, I spent weeks checking pounds and ads looking for the breed I wanted. Mini Schnauzers just aren't very popular down here in Miami.

I would love to own an American Staffordshire Terrier, or a Lab. My sister's is a great dog.

yea i know all about allergies. my wife is allergic to alot of dogs. but for some reason she does fine with pure bred GSD and my Silver lab.

and for the all black thing. I think people tend to stay away from black dogs because they see them as being more mean than a yellow or chocolate. I mean alot of movies show black dogs as being violent. such as black GSD in omen and Rotties everywhere. It all mental and has nothing to do with the dog.

This is our little buddy Sammy, he has been in the family since Christmas 05 and is a very smart and loving dog. When I was younger I had German Shepards and Brittanys and a Doby and I never thought I would ever have a lap dog but when it came time to get one for my little girl she was stuck on a Toy Poodle so thats what we got and I dont regret it one bit. He is super smart hypo allergenic and loves my little girl to no end. Actually he loves everyone in the family but seems to have a speacial connection to Jessie. Well I thought I would brag about my little guy a bit and here is a pic.

Saving a stray is one of the best ways to get a new buddy! (I think they understand how close they got to the end - and you saved them!)

Congrats and may you have many years of joy together :)

Dude that is a fine looking dog and I think it is awesome you adopted him. Very cool and he looks like you should put him on some birds.. Congrats again
