I've always heard that it's smart to pack extra batteries when you go camping. I'd never done that, but now I know why people say to do it.
I went on a camping trip this past weekend. I had just finished setting up camp and was relaxing, enjoying nature, blaring some tunes on my portable boombox when the batteries died. So I had to take the batteries out of my flashlight, but I wasn't too worried because I knew the campfire would provide plenty of light that night. Around 10pm the fire died. No light. No heat. I no longer had batteries for the flashlight so I had no way of rekindling the fire. It was a scary and cold night to say the least. Pitch black. Every bump in the night I thought was out to get me.
Moral of story.
Make sure you take extra batteries for stereos, mp3 players, gameboys, flashlights, etc. when you go camping in the great wilderness.

Who in the heck takes a stereo, mp3 player, gameboy or other electronic crap into the woods? Cut the umbilical to civilization. There have been times when I have wanted to put a few rounds in some inconsiderate jerks boombox because he thinks we all want to hear the crap he calls music.

Well, yeah, but you simply must take extra batteries for your nose hair trimmer. What if you were stuck in the remote wilderness and ran out of batteries for your nose hair trimmer? The octopus cooker runs on batteries, too, so be sure to take spares for that....

I am sooooooo tempted to move this thread to Whine & Cheese....

I'm sorry but common sense would tell you to just deal without the music for a night and save the batteries for the essentials. Unless of course you need the boombox for the Barry White or Marven Gay CDs to get the lil'lady in the mood. Which if that's the case you should practice more, it'll save you on batteries in more way than one.;)
