I would have to disagree, when gripping the blade my knuckles come about a 1/4 inch down past the edge. I don't think that there are any control or torquing issues at all. If anything it puts the edge slightly "out there" making your strikes more accurate.
The handle is a proven design. I've never heard a single complaint out of SJ users.
well, for whatever its worth, i've been carrying a 3rd gen handle daily for 2 years straight now, and for the past year i've been carrying 2 3rd gen handles daily, one sj, one sj inspired NICK mod. and i have always had a personal issue with the handle in regards to ergonomic security.
its not a big complaint - and i dont normally have issues with it. it gets a lot worse when the handle is smoothed out, like on my linen .220 saber sj, wich is really, really smooth. i dont really feel secure chopping with the blade, but i do it anyways, and have never had a problem.
the new tac handles look almost perfect for what i want in a knife handle, and busse made the modifications himself. that alone shows that there were things that could be done to the 3rd gen handles that can make them better - directly from the designer himself. chances are if there is another handle type, it will be even better then the tac handles.
my comments about the blade being below the knuckle come from my experience with my nick mod when i had the edge at the bottom of the gaurd level, and i had continual twisting problems with it, so i remodded it into a pointier tipped recurved version, wich i may mod again to be thinner. this is more an issue with other parts of the geometry, how much metal is behind the edge combined with how thin it is - but i felt that the twisting in the hand issue and the general lower quality of blade control was somewhat universal in regards to edge position for the type of cutting i was doing (cardboard and the like)
obviously i could be wrong, and probably am to a large degree. i still hold to what i said in regards to the question "tell me why the xxxl nick isnt the perfect food prep camp knife"
