• Happy Thanksgiving to all of you! I hope that you all have something to be grateful for this year and for many years to come
  • America has reached 250 years, and I am grateful to be here, in the best country in the world. Thank every one of you who helps make this country a better place, those who have gone before and risked it all, and those who've paid the ultimate price to make the United States what we are today.

Happy Birthday America! Let Freedom Ring for all time!

"XYZ" cutting effect- how may are there?

I have heard of a few different cutting effects:

1) Forgers can "pack" and edge and there is a tighter grain at the edge (as well as a more favorable chemical mixture?) and there is supposed to be a sharper edge producable.

2) With Talonite, the matrix wears away faster than the carbides (much faster than steel matrices) and so you get a toothy edge for a long time

3) I just read about the dendritic effect, whereby the cast metal forms a network of tough carbides and again, well, I kinda forget, but I think that the matrix wears away leaving large grains that tend not to pop out, leaving a toothy edge that lasts long, according to David Boye anyways.

How many other "cutting effects" are there? Cliff Stamp: can you fill in some info here? Knife makers, any dispute here? Especially I notice that David Boye and his dendritic theory go against "common knowledge", where many say a tighter, smaller grain is better but david boye says the opposite produces a better edge, at leasw ith cast metal.

More, More, More please!
