Yak fans, what, where, and how often?

Guyon - That set up is sweet. I never really thought of putting retention lanyards on my rods. I've actually lost a rod to the depths of the abyss off the side of a canoe. Do they get in the way at all?

I've never used a kayak, they look like a great way to go, I've got this partially paralyzed right arm that could be a problem but I should still give it a try.

I do use a canoe, I haven't used it in the last couple of years as much as I want, last time was Nov. when I was hunting up in north Florida.

I rig it a couple of different ways. I can be kind of lazy sometimes :)

One rule of kayak fishing, at least in deeper water, is: if you don't want to lose it, lash it down. The rod leashes are based on a design I saw at www.atlantakayakfishing.com/forum I have to give member "HungOne" credit for the design.

I made them out of cell phone recharger cables, some alligator clips, brass clips, velcro strapping, and some aluminum ferrules. The charger cable stretches pretty easily, but if you need the rod without the leash, the alligator clip pops right off by mashing a button and sliding it.

I have a sit-on-top 13' Ocean fishing model. I chase smallmouth in the local rivers & largemouth & bream in some small lakes. Thare's some trout water in N.E.Tn. I'm wanting to try.

If you gents are ever near Central Wisconsin, come visit us in Wausau for the kayak races. Great fun. There's lakes and rivers and boat landings all over the place up here.

Johnspark - What model is that middle yak? Do you get wet in it?

It's a Prowler 13. Same model as the one in Guyon's pictures. He has a little more mods mounted on his. I keep mine stripped down for the most part. I'll load up if I'm going out on big water, but I mostly fish small rivers and such now. My days of hitting the gulf and big impoundments are few and far between.
