. Call me an artsy-fartsy snob, but the only place other than right here in Evansville that I could call home would be Louisville, KY, and that's because i really like the culture and fine dining there. My in-laws have a lot to do with me liking L-ville so much. The "civillized" me...think cigar smoking chimp with a bowtie;)

I love living in Louisville, but I think I'd like living just outside it a bit better.

I agree with you on that one, 45-70. While i love the city, i could live without the traffic. Still, I'd pick L-ville traffic over Indy or Chicago anyday. Honestly, if i didn't have family ties with my hometown, i.e. family business, then i'd probably move to the Louisville/J-town area in a heartbeat. Do you ever do the Derby thing? I went one time. Got frisked by some MP's (right after 9/11 so that was ok with me). Dropped 50 bucks on some watered down drinks. Got sunburned. I was sitting on the in-field so I saw 6 breasts, 1 penis twice (he streaked down and back), and about 4 sets or horse ears as they popped up and down over the wall that blocks your view on the straightaway. I think i'm done with the Derby...or at least the infield;)

Never ever have I gone to, or have a desire to go to the derby. I go to the track with my company once a year, eat a great lunch, lose about 20-25 bucks and go home happy.

Memphis traffic sucks too. I live out in the north west corner of the county, not far from Oldham county. Its grown up terribly in the time I've lived here. Next stop will be out around Taylorsville I think. Only time will tell.

NEVER confuse Texas with the confederate states.
We are a separate nation unto ourselves and a different culture altogether.

May I ask why you want to try Texas so much ?

Did someone tell you something? Just curious.

Texas is hot and dry, but we have the best BBQ on earth.
Dallas women are super cute, but stuck up and snotty.

We have Six Flags over Texas, very much an adult-oriented theme park.
(very few kiddie rides, almost all of them are big and scary - like me.)

No state income tax, concealed weapons permits, several large renaissance festivals, national parks, mule deer, alligators, the alamo, a long beach/coastline. (lots of red snapper fishing)

Negatives: football mania, lots of transplanted northerners, 100+ degree weather in the summer, too many state troopers...

I'm going to level with everyone. i know almost nothing about the more southern regions of the states. i *hear* alot of things. and i'm sure most of you realize just how Hollywood portrays the so-called Confederate states (Texas not included).

But I don't listen to all that. I make up my own mind.

I do know from my limited experiences that the culture is vastly different from cosmopolitan Toronto. Everyone here minds their own business. Go and try to start some small talk and you might be looked upon as if you had two heads. I also find here that people are generally polite.

We are profoundly multicultural and very tolerant.

I just want to live in a place where its warm and the people are neighbourly. I thought of Texas b/c well, I'm a corporate goon and i need a large corporate enviornment. But I know almost nothing about Texas. But you seem like decent folk Danny, so I can't imagine Texas being the "cowboy" state that us Northerners make you out to be.

on a more interesting note, here in the land of T.O. I'm considered the rightest of the right. In the U.S, you guys would probably think I'm a communist. ;)

(besides... you guys have a hockey team.)

Thanks Steely! That is just decent of you. you guys are great. though I'm still going to avoid Ohio...

;)

Well, we are very culturally diverse in the cities, and less so in the country.
I have had a girlfriend from almost every major ethnic group on Earth. All of them I met in Dallas.
(Alas, I got married before I could try Russian!)

Dave, I don't know what they say about Texas cowboys in Canada, but where I come from, cowboys are all gentlemen.
Yes, they can be ignorant, but most of the time they mind their own business and hold the door open for ladies and kids.

Don't forget Dave, we pretty much invented computers. There are more than just cowboys down here. I grew up in plano across the street from apollo mission engineers, Texas Instrument bigwigs,Jack Kilby, Tommy Chaddick, etc...

I think we have the best cuisine in the US and tremendous variety at that.

I always thought of Texas as being made up of four regions - West Louisiana, South Oklahoma, North Mexico, and the Western Wasteland.
