You know what? The chandan handle cracked on that one. Not badly. I've filled the two cracks with superglue, and I'm waiting to see if any more develop. Then a little TruOil, and a little love, and it'll be good as new.

Steve do you recall if the handle was the bloody chandan or regular chandan?
A long while back there were some khuks handled with chandan and almost all of them cracked.:(

Dunno Yvsa, can you tell from the pic above? It's pretty red, so I'd guess bloody. It's really beautiful wood. Can't wait to sand it and get some TruOil on it.

Steve

Can't tell Steve, don't know that much about it. Didn't the bloody chandan have some grain inclusions that were darker?
This appears to be pretty straight grained and all one color? Too bad Bill is sick or maybe he could enlighten us on it a bit.:(

The bloody Chandan? Well, that's better than the friggin Chandan, or the feces encrusted chandan.

DUMB joke!!

but that's ok; I'm allowed.

Munk, Is it a blessing or a curse being poet laureate of the insane asylum here? :D

That Tru-Oil is wonderful stuff. I'm using it to finish 2 basses as well as my khuk handles.

I use egg, flour and spices to finish my basses...fry them to a golden brown in a nice vegetable oil. Yummm....

There is a caution about using True Oil for frying fish, and that is if you wait too long the fish will stick to the pan. Of course, this slight weakness of the product is more than outweighed by the virtue of the oil being true; true in a world where everything is cosmetic and fake, this is not margerine, not egg substitute, not Yup cream, it is True Oil damn it and we're proud of it.

Ferg- I just don't know.

Looks like horn to me. We'll see how it looks when it gets here.

I'll bet it's tan leather. It will need some cleaning where the white metal of the scabbard was buffed, but it should clean up well. Sgt. Karka's sarki does good work.

I personally guarantee that you'll like it. :) If you don't, email me. :D
