Yard Work Beaters.

My yard beaters... BM Grip 551 CE or Spyderco Native SE. The Native handles most things I throw at it (never had any blade play here either) but generally it's a bit small in hand for me. My old BM Grip/440c and has never handled my EDC chores without chipping ( regardless of what bevel it sported)... therefore has taken early retirement as a garden knife.

Either an Opinel or a Mora.
Adn sometimes I just use my favorite EDC knives, the Böker Trance and Spyderco Tenacious.

Anyone remember of the old SOG x-42 recondo with BG-42 steel ? Looks like weird tanto from sci-fi movies. Love the knife because it has one of the hardest blade steel; BG-42 with 62 RC ! I don't have to worry to nick the blade because of its hardness.

And any EDC folder I have at that time.

Usually one of my Condor machetes, a Mora, or my CS X2 Voyager. :o

My frequent work carry is a SE Spyderco Tasman Salt. It makes quick work of any pruning chores with its hawkbill blade. Man I love that little knife. I need to pick up a Salt 1, but I can't decide on a edge.

For an actual BEATER that I literally smack on, Cold Steel Pocket Bushman. Still loving this big goofy thing:D

Pre-Ontario Ranger RD-7.

It's truly a beater because I regularly beat on it with 3" branches and at one point a hammer.

Anyone else find it interesting that most peoples hard use knives are cheapies. Funny how the knives built for hard use just get used for cutting open mail or for filling safes. Just a interesting observation:)

I use my BM 710 for everything. Cutting stuff that is. The right tool for the right job:)

Usually for yard work, I have my SE Tenacious and either my Rat RC-3 or Spyderco Rock Salt. If I know I will be doing tree pruning/trimming, one of my HI khukuris (this weekend it was my 15" CAK) accompanies me.

Moras. Perfect for cutting sod, plants, etc. I can put a quick edge back on with the belt grinder, and don't feel guilty when I throw it in the garbage.

FWIW, my Gingrich-made RD-7 cost about $100. I recently also started using a Swamp Rat Howling Rat which cost more than that. But both of these knives like to be hurt. :D

The same as my EDC, its whats there when i need a blade.

you guys switch for different tasks?

I think you might be treating your blades like the male version of a purse. one for every outfit, one for your good jeans, one for church, one for work, one for driving, one for outdoor, one for survival. Damn guys.

I guess the saying that "satisfaction is the death of desire" doesn't apply to knifenuts? ;)

An old Kershaw folder with rubber handle and two blades...one a sheeps foot the other a clip. I DONT REMEMBER THE MODEL.

My "backyard knife" is an old carbon-steel 10-inch butcher knife, the handle was destroyed so I wrapped it with bicycle handlebar tape....it gets the job done.
