Makes since now that I have a picture of your house...:D

More like this actually:

Dang sweet gums, I have about 5 huge ones in the yard! On the flip side, they provide a lot of shade during the summer.

They are nice trees, and beautiful in the fall, but what a pain in the ass to clean up. I couldn't imagine having 5 to deal with.

Somebody planted a million of those in San Jose in the early part of the 1900s. They can be nice to look at, but people are forever twisting ankles on those stupid balls. They've been largely banished now. I hardly ever see 'em anymore. Evil little seed pods.

I spent an hour yesterday raking leaves, and about 1.5 today mowing the lawn and pulling weeds - and little sapling oaks and ficus that sprout up where they don't belong.
Good times.

My driveway is over 300 feet long. In the middle stretch there are 10 sweet gums spaced about 20-25 ft apart and that means a lot of gumballs. I rake, I mulch/mow, the Cyclone Rake tries to suck 'em up and still I don't get them all. Their only value as far as I can tell is that you can put them around small plants and they'll keep the rabbits away from chewing up small leaves. On the other hand, they do provide some great fall color.

Edited to add: Oh and...great pics Bravo...keep 'em coming.

the good news is - my mower started up today with no hassle.
the bad news is - it's because I had to mow before the grass was tall enough it required the tractor & bush hog, and I was almost too late.

I haven't mowed for the first time yet either. I'm hoping to at the end of the week though. I got a flat tire fixed, and charged the battery up on my Deere Saturday. She started right up, so good to go.
