I've been looking for a ZT 0551 since getting my 0301. Everyone has been sold out. So I called ZT to see if I could order from them directly. The answer of course was no. The nice lady explained that the entire run is sold and they still have 250 that they have to make to satisfy the pre-orders. She mentioned that they had just shipped some this past week, so I asked her if she could give me the name of the store. I called them up and number 0647 will be on it's way to me :D. The salesman acted as though he had a couple more if anybody else is interested. I don't know if I can post the stores name according to forum rules, but if you email me I'll be glad to share.

I saw on a dealers website that this knife is going to be available with a black coated blade.

Sorry, I wasn't calling you a liar - just that the dealer was probably in error or mistaken.

I have personally head the same thing from a ZT dealer, a ZT0551 with a black coated blade. I believe it was supposed to be a distributor exclusive. I am not saying it was a sure thing, just that I have also heard it.

DapperDan is correct. It's not a dealer error, nor is it an exclusive for one particular dealer. In addition to the BladeHQ link posted above, kershawguy had a pre-order thread for the ZT 0551BLK a while back (I'm on his list, in fact).

I'm curious as to whether anyone that has contacted me for the store info has been able to get one. I've replied to 5 or so requests for the info so far...
And could someone point me in the right direction to get on the list for a black blade 551? Between by Benchmade and Chris Reeve habits, I really didn't need to add ZT to the list...and I'm having a real difficult time staying away from the Kershaw site. Is there a 12 step program for this? ;)

So the 0551 was NOT actually a limited sprint run? Thomas ...!!!
How on earth are you drawing that conclusion from anything that's been said in this thread? The ZT 0551 -- with stonewashed Elmax blade -- was a limited run consisting of a little less than 1200 knives, including ones that didn't pass QC. (Thomas gave the exact tally in another thread in this subforum.) The ZT 0551BLK is a different version -- with a different model designation (0551BLK) and a black coated Elmax blade instead of a stonewashed one -- and is itself a very limited run. I think I remember Dave (kershawguy) saying in his pre-order thread that only 250 of the 0551BLK would be produced.

Thought the 0551 was the model designation for the sprint run with 0550 for the production model. I didn't know adding a BLK made it a different, limited edition model. There is a reason I called myself bladeNOVICE. :o

Haha, yeah, that's the way KAI (Kershaw/ZT) and a lot of other companies (e.g., Benchmade) do their model designations. For instance, all of the many versions of the Leek -- I counted a dozen currently in production on Kershaw's website just now -- begin with the number '1660', with the characters after that designating which particular model it is (black, pink, composite blade, S30V/G-10, etc.).

But then ZT uses different model numbers for the same knife with different color scales like the 0301, 0302, and 0303 or the 0560 and 0561. My head is spinning. Oh well. Just when I thought I was getting the hang of this knife obsession.

Just had my 551 delivered. Everything I thought it would be except for one thing....I went to switch the clip for lefty carry, and the screws are just a tad too short to grip the thread with the clip where it should be. Without the clip it takes 2-3 turns to tighten them down. BUMMED....

On the positive side, I called customer service and they are sending me some longer screws to see if they'll work, if not they told me to call back and they would give me the info on sending it back to them for service. Thumbs UP for customer service, just wish quality control had caught it. It's going to be a LONG week waiting for the replacement screws. Good thing I have a few other blades hanging around :)

Steve, it was too late for me to call them on Friday and I got too busy to call on Saturday. By the time Monday rolled around I figured it was already too late. I was hoping there was a website so that I could have ordered online after hours. You snooze, you lose - the story of my life.

I have seen this on a couple of dealer sites. When I called Kershaw/ZT they clearly stated it would not happen as they were having enough trouble getting all of the 0551 knives finished and QC'd. I called when they were on number 650 and was told that they still had 600 on back order and that some people wouldn't be receiving their knives. Apparently that didn't work out either as I see they have shipped numbers into the 1200s. Not that I care...I bought mine to use...not sell and make a profit as I see some have. I like it so much that I've bought 3 now. I can't wait for the 0560/0561.
