Yeah, I Get It Now - New ZT 0551

I'm really stoked as my ZT 0551 arrived today. This is a rugged and beautiful piece of hardware. Not really sure where the serial numbers finish but mine is #1090.

Is everyones a little tough to open? My thumb hurts from opening and closing it, I just can't put it down.

The detent is a little stiff but frankly I prefer that as gravity knifes are illegal here (If LE can wrist flick it open, your heading for jail). I found that part of it is in the way that you hold it when opening. A lot of people hold it with their fingers resting on the frame lock which adds pressure to the detent. Try choking up a little bit and using the knuckle bone at the base of your thumb pad to press the stud instead of the tip. That may help your sore thumb blues. :P

Are these impossible to find now except ebay? I was way too late about learning about this one. Any dealers have these in stock by any chance?

Hi Guyon -

Congrats - now that you have had it for a couple of weeks, what are your thoughts?

I can't find any flaws in mine either in execution or in design.

The only thing I would change is that I would have not beveled the blade-facing edge of the lock-bar where your thumb makes contact with the lock-bar to dis-engage lockup when you want to close the open and locked knife.

I find that my thumb can easily slide off of the lockbar, so I have to use more pressure and be more careful to get traction with my thumb on the lockbar.

The area I am talking about is on the right side of the lock-bar at the topmost visible point in the following picture:

Other than that little tweak, this knife is really sweet - I don't see how you could break this fatty, it feels great in your hands, and the blade sharpens up easily (I use a DMT Dia-fold) and stays sharp through the general kinds of cutting I for which I use my knife.

Congrats on finally picking your knife up - I have had mine since last fall when they first came out, and I have been very impressed with the quality and durability.

best regards -

ouch that would be rough.
the only folders that I can't wrist flick are ones with really light blades like leeks/chives etc.
anything 3 inches and not paper thin? no problem.
