I try and pretend I'm getting no older but everytime I do this hike I'm quickly reminded that isn't true !

Although only about an hour to the top the whole trail climbs quickly and is gnarly as hell with exposed tree roots and loose rocks...

As I climbed higher the trail became an icy path....

Wanting to keep any extra weight to a minimum this was the only knife I took today...

Even the large pool at the very top had become frozen...

I thought my forum buddy Dennis might appreciate this little video of Snicker at the top and before ya ask no it's not speeded up that's her usual pace !( You can see it better if ya double click it and watch it full size on Youtube ).

I'm with you buddy. It ain't fun coming to reality, but we can't do the things we have done in our 20's nearly as easy in our thirties.. :(

Snicker is a fast little guy eh! Like a little lightning bolt!

I was really amazed at the difference after turning 35 :grumpy: Seems like the magic number where your body says, F you pal, you aren't a young buck anymore! But keeping up the exercise helps, we may hike slower, but at least we hike :D

Thirties ??? THIRTIES ??? Tony, you & Pit are still pups yet . . .
Man, wait until you hit the peak @ 50, then start that slippery slope on the other side & try the path Pit showed in his shots. Gives you a whole new outlook on walking sticks believe me . . . :D
As always Pit, good shots. Thanks for taking us.
Be safe.

The hardest thing to accept is our loss of youth and the progression of time.

She's like a turbocharged mountain goat!

I getting close to 30 and I really need to start exercising a lot more. I feel like I've been hit by a train every morning and 3 sets of stairs gets my blood pounding in my ears...
I think staying active and keeping your body in tune is the key.

age is no excuse my friends, I recently did some training at the gym with a 62 yearold, he could bench more and deadlift more than me, I couldnt believe it. I also hunt with a couple of older guys ones 52 and the other is 59 and they are both super fit, loaded up with venison and a full pack they made hiking look easy.

the other thing with you older guys is you compensate for your age by getting cunning and clever, the gear you carry is refined to the minimum, you pick routes that are easier, you know where the deer will be before they even know, you know its gona rain by the smell in the air and you take young guys out with you so they can carry the heavey stuff.

keep it up pit dog, great pics as usual

I accept growing old - the alternative is far worse.

Snicker sure is a spry one :D

I'm 50.

Honestly it's easier for me now than at 25 even though I'm heavier.

But my gear is a hell of a lot lighter so maybe that's it!

Great pics Pit!

Stewey, there is an old adage my dad used a lot in my childhood that I never thought of until my later years . . . .
" Work smarter my son, not harder " . . .
Be safe.

I hear you, man. Been overdoing the cardio, and starting to feel it. Woke up with a charlie horse in my calf, back aching, foot throbbing..and went and hiked for a few hours. Might as well get used to the idea of hiking no matter what, with another trip to Utah coming in a month. Not going 2000 miles to make excuses. Hurt a little, but it sure beat sitting at home.

High temps in the 30s down here today, but the waterfalls were flowing since we've been getting rained on the last couple of days-which is why I was going somewhere, regardless. Finally tried my Esbit stove, too(sucks!).

Pit I really enjoy your posts and pics and always the dogs! I'm getting some miles on me too-can't P-ss a drop to change it either! Well at least your post brightened my day after just going thru a blizzard and totally snow bound! Hang tough my friend!

Wow!!!! That's an amazing place! Great pics, Is your Victorinox one of the "On the road" editions?

I'm 54, just finished having my second surgery for mesothelioma in Oct-10. I'm still breathing and still verticle and I'm not done. To much to do yet!!!

pit one of my customers lives near some spring ponds [rare in most of tex.] told me he spotted a mossican & he hollered at the male of his 2 russells because it took after the snake. before he got there the snake was in 3 pieces. snicker is really true to the breed, courageous, fast, & intelligent. thanks for the great trip. i'm 72 & hike with 2 youngsters--26 & 28, last week i fell 3 times due to leaf covered slopes. one of the kids saw me go down[i always laugh] he said i did a quick 180 going down & i remarked that i like to land on my pack. this is a black soil, humus & leaf covered area so its soft. one of the kids broke a bodark thorn off in his finger, did'nt look like much but when he finally dug the festered thing out it was 1/4 in. long.bodark festers whereever it sticks or scratches you. pit the best medicine for age is to stay super active. wish i could photo like yourself.thanks for the trip--dennis who would have thought that swiss army would cut like that.
