Yeah I'm getting old !!!!

My God, I can't even believe I'm hearing young guys in their 30's complaining about age!

I'd give my left --- to just be in my 50's again. I turned 70 last month, and just this morning the better half and myself did a few miles walking in the snow at the park up the road. The woods have a special beauty in the snow. I feel the effects of the walk now, but some Ibuprofin will handle that.

The biggest change is going through your 60's. The change from 60 to 70 is the most pronounced one you will experience in spite of working out and trying to stay fit. Sooner or later, time will take it's toll on you, like it or not, and you have to be really careful out there.

But don't complain while you're in your 30's. You ain't earned it yet, pup!

Carl.

Yea - i'm 45 and noticed a big shift in fitness after about 32 (muscles healing slower, re-bound from long, hard routes much slower).

However, i'm not about to go complaining - i'm still young and just need to be more regular in fitness activities. I haven't noticed a decrease in my capacity for the cold yet - it's the same as when in my 20's (when my resting heart rate was ~28-31 bpm) so circulation is generally great. However, my toes/feet are almost always cold due to multiple frost-nip's (almost solid frostbite, but not quite), but the rest is fine.

Looks like a great hike and many photo-ops. Good on ya for getting out regularly - keeps the bones strong, the lungs open and the mind relaxed!!

Snicker is a bundle of energy!

I hit my "wall" full-speed at 40. Just about 45 now and really feeling the effects of gravity!

This is the first winter I've ever felt "cold". Always wondered why old folks always complained of that.

Slow and steady is my motto.

I sure wish things came as easily now as they did when I was in my mid-30s. I have to work a lot harder to get to the same level of conditioning. But I do what I have to, I enjoy backpacking too much.

I frequently tell my son that age and treachery will overcome youth and skill every time.

 I am 50 yrs old myself. What bothers me most is that most body parts that aren't supposed sag, do. Also top speed is just a memory. lol:D

Pit, great photos, and yes, Snicker sure is full of energy! So, that log cut was made with a SAK? No kidding? How long did that take you, were you wearing gloves, and did you get any hot spots? That's a way cool pic in and of itself! Pushing 50 this year, I've never spent as much time solo hiking (well, me and Jake dog)...lovein' it too

I turned 76 this past December. I'm still active, still workout and so on but now I think over what I'm going to do before I do it. Saves lots of aches and pains. My main bitches with old age are a bit of arthritis in the hands and some slight loss of hearing. Otherwise, still have a full head of hair, my own teeth, eat darned near anything, and so on. My only meds in the house are aspirin, Vick's salve, and Windex.

Agree with other posters though, I have come to absolutely HATE winter! The local forecast is for minus 10 tonight and a high tomorrow of 6 or 8. Lovely---not! As soon as I post this I'll be back outside making sure the livestock is all okay and has plenty extra to eat. Takes calories to produce body heat so I feed the hell out of my horses on cold nights and make sure they have their overcoats on. Also, sucker that I am, have an old computer desk on my front porch made into cubbyholes for feral cats with two electric heating pads in place on it and plugged in so they don't freeze. I have some sure 'nuff cat piles on the pads in the mornings. Do they appreciate it? Hell, no! Typical cats. Oh well, they do eat lots of grasshoppers, other bugs, and rodents during gardening season.

Age is a number .....youth is a feeling!!

47 years old ..... still trains 7-10 times a week ..... 3 weight sessions, 2 run sessions (45 min) and 3 MTB sessions (1 hour, 1 hour and 3 hour)

Male aging is partially due to reduced testosterone levels. Loss of lean muscle weight, thining of the skin and memory loss ....all medical proven fact.Told the wife when I hit 50, I am shooting some testosterone twice a year for 8 weeks. She went ape ....so I asked her if she is going on hormone replacement therapy (HRT) after menopause ....for sure she said. So case closed .. I am doing the same. Male version of HRT:D

A life-long commitment to fitness is the only way to feel young as you roll up the miles. At 48 I can still bike and hike harder than a lot of guys half my age.

Work on your heart and lungs, not the weights. Don't pu$$y out, hit those hard trails. After 30 you just can't coast anymore, you've got to work to stay fit. As far as lifting is concerned, I've found that if you've ever been strong, it's easy to get strong again, but not if you don't maintain your base fitness.

Bottom line- If you push yourself now, you'll be kicking a$$ later.

. . . a take on my words to my son who "thought" he knew all the answers & knew everything growing up . . . I always told him he had just not heard all the questions yet & still had a lot to learn . . . :D
Be safe.

No that cut was not really made with the SAK...hence the :D....although I'm sure given the time and patience it could be done !

three years ago at the Ft Benning 3 gun match, the long range stage required you to shoot off a shingled roof with at least a 4-12 pitch, slick with early morning dew, with condensed breath fogging the sights, and 10inch targets out to 415m.... I had a pretty good run, and as I walked off the stage an Army captain asked to speak with me, and asked "sir, how old are you?" I replied 61...he thanked me... I considered that a compliment, but on further reflection, he probably thought I looked like I was going to die on his range

I did a ten mile mostly uphill hike at 48 a few years ago. On the way out, my butt was dragging and a nice white haired gent passed me, carrying a big Jansport day pack. I asked him where he had come from, and he replied "Lake Lorraine" which was twice as far as I went. He was at least in his mid sixties.

I sit in a chair all day. He hikes. It's not necessarily your age.
