Yeah, mine was a Hiking Buddy Friday :)

I guess it really boils down to what you choose to use your blades for. 1/8" is all I need at home and in the field, but I don't baton, pry or put a whole lot of stress on my blades. "They makes cheap ugly tools for that." If I did do those things, I'd probably prefer 5/32" if not thicker.

I agree that there are cheaper tools available for doing things like cutting down small treas, splitting fire wood, etc. I guess I am looking at it from the standpoint of having only one tool available and on my person. When it comes to cutting efficiency, my 3/32" Bushraptor is hard to beat, but if my car goes into a ditch in the winter, and I am stuck for the night, I would want something more substantial to get me through the night.

I just love this thread title, "It's a Hiking Buddy Friday"! Every Friday is a Hiking Buddy Friday in Martinsville, Virginia! :) I have a little selection of Hiking Buddy's and every Friday I pick one for the week's tasks. I LOVE a Hiking Buddy/Bowie! They are all fun; 3/32", 1/8", 5/32", tapered, guardless, guarded, full grind, three quarter grind, beautiful wood... That is an amazing profile and Mist, your is super cool! Thanks for this thread!!!!

Will, it sounds like you have a bad case of "too many hiking buddies." I'll PM you my address so you can remedy the situation. But only because I consider yourself a friend. :D

That looks a lot like my OD Green Runt!

Nice HB. Maybe someday . . . looks like a great all around blade.

The HB is an awesome small knife, one of my favorite Fiddelbacks of all.

Yes they do, I own a couple, heck I've even designed a couple ;), but for the places my work and my curiosity lead me, I prefer to take along not-so-cheap and not-so-ugly (I know beauty is in the eye of the beholder) tools for that sort of thing. However, they can be a bit much for around town and day hikes :)

Yup, FF listing when purchased says OD Green with black liners and lime green pinstripes. Occasionally in certain light it looks a little more green, but the pic I posted is an accurate representation! Some year I'll have to join the HB club.

I do love a Hiking Buddy! I'm using them for everything recently! Fun to use and fun to look at! It seems that profile gets some of the more interesting handle combinations/creations! So, what are some of the really different and original Hiking Buddys? I do remember a couple with pink pinstripes!
