Year of the Compression Lock

I must say the compression lock is the best IMO. I am not a huge fan of CR lock or Walker lock, I will take a mid back lock over those.

I do love the compression lock, it is honestly why the PMII took over from my Benchmade CQC7 Emerson original (1990's - I have one mint in box and another that I have used since the 90's) however, as of 2013 the PMII took over as my edc standard. Rarely depending on clothing and need I will switch it up too a Byrd (one of seven different models and yes I love the Byrd line) or Delica- however, I love that compression lock and shotshow gave me chubs all about!

Here's a list of the current (first three in bold below) and upcoming Spyderco folders with Compression Lock:

  1. ParaMilitary2
    [*]Szabo folder
    [*]Yojimbo2
  2. WolfSpyder
  3. ATR
  4. Sage 5
  5. Minuteman (3" ParaMilitary2 - name change coming)
  6. Ouroboros
  7. Lil’ Temperance 2
  8. Shaman

There are few discontinued Spyderco folders with Compression Lock (perhaps some more will come back like ATR and Lil' Temperance will):

  1. "S"
  2. Gunting
  3. Junior
  4. Salsa
  5. SuperLeaf

Are you going to start listing all of them? Seems a bit unrelated to the thread title...

But also; Szabo, Superhawk, Yojimbo, Vesuvius, ATR, Trakker prototype...

It's related because we're talking about Compression Lock folders. I didn't include Szabo and Yojimbo because they're current products even though the original Szabo and Yojimbo have been discontinued. I'm not familiar with SuperHawk and Vesuvius so perhaps they're much older models.

I do have Yojimbo2, both Szabo folders, several ParaMilitary2, SuperLeaf and original ATR (SS).

Maybe this should just be a discussion of Compression locks in general, then... not just only the year of upcoming models...?

And yeah, somehow missed the Szabo on your current list, my mistake.

I was referring to original Yojimbo.
Superhawk was same handle as Superleaf, but in peel ply carbon fiber and with a hawkbill blade.
Vesuvius was the only FRN knife with a Compression-lock (to my knowledge).
And since I mentioned the original Yojimbo, we could include the Lil Temperance, and all its variations.

It can be both, I started this thread to discuss my excitement about this years upcoming models, talking about the lock in general and how it's fantastic is also great.

Cool!
Well on that note, I just want to express my feelings that I hope Spyderco never does a Compression-lock knife with a button to depress the lock-bar.
Just my opinion.
Works great as is and stays out of the way. A button could easily get depressed unintentionally with certain grips...
I know Brad Southard has gone that direction on some customs, but I'm just not feeling it.

I love the compression lock on my PM2 and can't wait to hear the impressions that people have of the sage 5. I wonder sometimes if the shorter handle on the sage might make disengaging the compression lock harder for people because the PM2 has such a generous handle size.

Something that I never thought of, just picked up my PM2 and then my Sage 1 and tried with both to see how I held it and acted as if the Sage 1 had a compression lock. Didn't seem to bother me too much, only time will tell I guess.

I am a huge fan of the Compression Lock and am greatly looking forward to the Lil Temperance 2. If anyone from Spyderco is reading this thready, I'm sure all of us would appreciate any info on when it (and others) might become available. Thanks.

We can only hope and dream that our lord and savior, Mr. Sal Glesser happens upon this thread and teases us with some juicy details...

This was a reminder of how bad I need a yojimbo.

Yes you do. Fantastic knife all the way around. I also love the look of it.

The compression lock is a masterful design. And it works flawlessly from my experience.

I need to check out the ATR as I'm not familiar with it.

My next two Spydies will be the Tighe Stick and Myrtle. Both look outstanding. And I love Ti frame locks.

The Yojimbo2 is discontinued ?
