The guy calls himself Yekim on the net. His real name is Michael Willoya from Anchorage, Alaska. His shop is called Native sun Ivory & Knife Supply.
See following thread for further information:

He sold me some oosic after telling me that there will be no problems with the customs and that he will send the proper paperwork with them. What came was just two bones wrapped in old newspapers and not the required and asked for CITES papers i needed. Even in a six-month period i did get from the customs after a struggle and a lot of paper work he wasn't able to send me a business bill and the CITES papers or even an informative fax or email. He just kinda disappeared. I lost 350 $ worth of material plus all the time and money i invested to get it back.

Beware!

I'm surprised by this. Yekim seems like a good guy. I've dealed with him before, and everything went smoothly. I hope he pops in here, it's been a while since I've seen anything out of him on the forums. I hope you get your money back. Did he make you pay, even before they cleared customs? What were his last words to you?

I had to send him the money even before he tried to send me the material. His last comment (on september 4th, the problems arised in february!) was that he had been kinda busy this summer and had been evicted from his appartment because they didn't like his dog. My deadline was October, 1st and he promised to send me the right papers. No further informations arrived. He had a 7 month period to send me a business bill (declaring the materials as what they are) and the CITES-documents from the Fish and Wildlife Service.

I know that i was not the only person being in trouble with him.

Interesting fact:

After this post i received several emails from different people who had bad problems with him. Some never saw back their ivory, some never saw back their money.

I hope, he'll never be back on the market again.

Anybody had any news from him?
Well, i had some news from the public prosecutor (?) charging me with violating CITES rules. The maximum can be 3 years and/or 10000 $. No good news.

What do you mean, You're getting charged? Could you please clarify that for us?

Greg

Right now the final word is not yet spoken. But if things will go on according to the plans of the public prosecutor i will be charged heavily for violating CITES rules. And the maximum charge possible for what i did (NOT!) is 3 years prison and a 10000 $ ticket. Remember: it was only 2 fossile (!!!) oosics.
All this because the man mentioned above did not do the things he promised to do out of some kind of laziness.
I'll keep you updated.

FWIW Yekim hasn't posted on the forums for a long time. I'm afraid banning him would be a mere token, though I suppose we could do it anyway.

After nearly one and a half year of constant struggle with the customs and the public prosecutor, countless letters from me and my lawyer to them, the final decision was taken. Luckily, i got away with what we use to call a "blue eye":

- The oosics were confiscated and destroyed.
- I have to pay all expenses of the customs and the jurisdiction (am waiting for the bill, expecting several 100 $).
- No further punishment against me will follow.

Did i learn something from all that? Yes. No further business over the pond. No purchase of doubtful material if it isn't in Germany and i can lay my hands on it before paying it.

If somebody (in Anchorage, AL) gets in contact with Mike Willoya, would you please remind him that he ows me (at least) 350 $ for the oosics? I can't find any contact information.

It is very stranged.....I have heard about several who have had trouble with Mike....I did one trade with him...3 pounds of ivory for 2 knives...this was at least 2-3 years ago good trade for both of us I think...chatted with him often and he used to be very helpfull....then some day he just disapeared........

Yeah, Mikey (Yekim spelled backwards) just disappeared. I used to talk to him a lot on ICQ. Then one day....gone.

Glad you're outta trouble with them whale diks. :)

So Achim, what did this whole mess end up costing you? It is good that no charges were laid against you, but it seems that it was a pretty expensive lesson you learned.

By the way, thanks for the warning that Mikey has returned.

KWM, it is difficult to tell exactly how much it did cost me. At least i lost the 350 $ for the handle material, 150 $ in jurisdiction costs and an estimated 150 $ for phone calls, mail costs, gas for driving around and so on. Not to count the endless amount of hours.

But the worst thing is that i lost my credit at the customs. I didn't tell in this thread that i finally DID get a punishment. It was only a thing that is called a "warning", coming from an unexpected side. Not from the jurisdiction but from the administration that is about the same as the Fish an Wildlife (or fish and game?) Service in the USA. And with this thing in my neck i would be in major trouble if a thing like that would happen again.

Achim

Have you emailed him since he reappeared? Has he responded?

I'm perfectly willing to ban him, but I'm still hoping for a better resolution.

Cougar, i didn't because of all the bad experiences i had with him. But i will do so soon and we'll see what happens.
