Yellow Rose 83 Issues?

Just got the Yellow Rose of Texas #83 and was unhappy with the super strong backspring lock back button. Takes two hands to push it down.

Next is the poor finish on the blade. Don't think I've ever had a new GEC come out of the tube with visible polishing/buffing marks on the blade.

Any other Texas Rose owners with similar problems?

This thread would fit perfectly in the "The Good The Bad The Ugly" forum.

And yes to those that suggest sending it back. It'll go back today. Was just curious if any other Yellow Rose owners had similar problems.

I've got 83 camel bone . Lock button is stiff but not two hands stiff. I figured it will loosen up with use. Regarding swirl marks on blade , I dont owe a northfield that doesn't have them . If I look at blade from angle it's very noticeable . Thought that was par for course .

@Txjohn agree that some of my 35 Northfield have faint swirl marks--most don't and none to this degree.

Your swirl marks looked excessive to me too . Some of mine look bad in certain light / angle. I didn't mention it because pictures can make it seem worst than it is . I have the clip yellow rose on on order , hope mine comes out ok. I returned one for repair ( my fault) and the wait was long . Hope you get yours back /replaced quickly

I have noticed the clip Northfields seems to have a tighter lockup; with a side effect of a more resistant unlock. Some oil on the well helps significantly and little action should tune it nicely. It is not a tension problem that a sitting part-open would fix (on the ones I have seen). Haven't noticed swirls any worse than normal, but I don't hit them with that kind of light and at that angle when checking. I don't have the clip models in YR yet though.

Just got a note from the factory that ALL Northfield Clip Yellow Rose #83's will be satin finish. I don't like to speculate, but my guess is that there may be an acknowledgement that the factory noticed a blade finish issue on this variant. As to whether it previously existed on drop points, doesn't sound like it from those posting here.

I noticed the swirls on my yellow rose and maybe on the cocobolo too when I looked at them so that must mean they're excessive, I haven't noticed it on any other new knives on initial inspection. I really didn't think a lot of it at the time but I'll look at them later tonight (maybe). I've only had them out of the tubes for a few minutes each (why am I so freaking busy these days?) The release seemed a little stiff, but again....I was just rushing through looking at them quickly.

Is anyone else noticing excessive swirls/polishing marks?

I have a lot of Northfields with lots of swirling if I get them out in the sunlight. Doesn't really bother me but it is one of the reasons I prefer the satin finished blades. I'm very pleased to hear that all the clips will have the satin finished blades as that is the version I've been waiting for! Thanks for the heads up Mike.

Not a doubt in my mind that if I look for them, I will find something ( whether they are any different than past or not ;) )
I did not notice it on the DP's at all, which are the only Northfield's I have seen other than stag.

I tend to turn all my polished blade knives into satin finish anyways so something like swirls don't bother me. ;)

Mine (yellow rose) was pretty nice out of the box, nice action & easily unlocked with a 2 finger pinch. I've turned it into a user, and the patina has nearly covered the blade etch - I don't recall any serious swirl marks, but can't remember for sure.

The cocobolo is still unused, great action & polished as good as any other Northfield.

With yours, I agree with the above comments about sending it back. Seems non-typical for the run.
